I'm using OpenSUSE 10.0 with KDE 3.5.0 and am having problems burning CDs with K3B. I can burn a CD as root user but cannot seem to find what the problem is with burning CDs using k3b. Any hints ? CP Hennessy

google.com/linux is your friend: SuSE 9.3 keeps whining when I try to access my DVD drive as a user. It tells me only root can mount /dev/dvd on /media/dvd. Before I start attacking fstab, here's the fstab entry for the entry: /dev/dvd /media/dvd subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0 Am I right in assuming all I need to do is add "users" to the string and I'll magically let me access my own data ?? ---------------------------------------- and the answer is YES, add users.. -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800

HI Paul, Thanks for the input. However the problem is not K3B "whining" about the R/W status of my dvd rather it is the fact that when I start the burn function, K3B runs cdrecord but nothing else happens - i.e. cdrecord started by the user "con" (thru k3b) does nothing whereas cdrecord started by root works. CP Hennessy Do you by any chance have cdrecord suid? Cdrecord drops root

The k3b site has some info about this. Check to make sure it is not suid. here is my fstab entry: dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0 -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800 X-Request-PGP: http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-pcartwright/key.asc

I doubt if anyone experienced similar problems, but my problem was that I could burn CDs using cdrecord etc as a normal user, but k3b would not burn for me (it would start cdrecord but not actually write anything to CD). The problem was that I was using RPMs from packman and when I upgraded to 3.5.0 I did not upgrade k3b. After upgrading k3b my problem disappeared. So it seems like there was some incompatability between k3b from 3.4.x and KDE 3.5.0. CPH
