[opensuse] user mounted partitions in 10.3
Hi All, The backup partitions I was mounting as a regular user under 10.2 are now only able to be mounted by root. I've added 'user' to each entry in fstab to no avail. Following are the relevant entries, split by hand into two lines each: [10.2 version] /dev/hdc1 /mnt/hdc-1 vfat noauto,users,uid=1000,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0 /dev/hdc2 /mnt/homebak reiserfs noauto,user,acl,user_xattr 1 2 [10.3 version] /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST330610A_6FB00N7J-part1 /mnt/hdc-1 vfat noauto,users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST330610A_6FB00N7J-part2 /mnt/homebak reiserfs noauto,acl,user_xattr 1 2 I've been searching and reading posts and the docs and am still not recognizing why I can't mount these partitions as user under 10.3. Ideas, anyone? TIA & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

A user can not mount that.
/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST330610A_6FB00N7J-part2 /mnt/homebak reiserfs noauto,acl,user_xattr 1 2
A user can not mount that. Add option "user" (not users) to both lines, like "noauto,user,etc..." - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Addendum: It appears in my prior post that I copied the lines from the original 10.3 fstab instead of the current one. Here are the correct lines: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST330610A_6FB00N7J-part1 /mnt/hdc-1 vfat noauto,users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST330610A_6FB00N7J-part2 /mnt/homebak reiserfs noauto,user,acl,user_xattr 1 2 Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Now I *know* I must be getting old... a) I didn't see the closing 's' in 'users' for /mnt/hdc-1 (assumed (it had somehow automagically retained my 10.2 setting during install) and b) I was interrupted mid-thought when working on this the other day and had simply forgotten to put the updated file into service, i.e.: /etc/fstab /= ~/Desktop/newfstab Carl P.S.
