I just noticed that the SUSE Linux 10 Bible is now available. I have the SUSE 9 version and found it quite good. http://linuxcentral.com/catalog/index.php3?prod_code=B000-463

This just came to my attention: - "SUSE Linux 10.0 Unleashed" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672327260 I have no idea if it's any good or not, but there are four reviews there already, averaging 4.5 / 5 stars (one bearing the lowest allowed rating of one star). Randall Schulz
> > I just noticed that the SUSE Linux 10 Bible is now available. I have > - "SUSE Linux 10.0 Unleashed" I can't comment on the Unleashed book - don't know anything about it, but two of the three the 'Bible' book worked with me at SUSE UK, and I can confirm that they really know their stuff. I have a copy of the SUSE 9 version, it's accessible for those with little technical knowledge, but also goes into depth for those who know their way around a Linux box, but want to try something new. Heartily recommended. -- James Ogley james@usr-local-bin.org Packages for SUSE: http://usr-local-bin.org/rpms Make Poverty History: http://makepovertyhistory.org

I have a couple of their other books in the series, Home Networking Bible - which I do not recommend at all if you run Linux as it just tells you to go on the web and find out :-( and I have the Adobe Premiere 6.5 Bible, again excellent. Be sure you look at the right series as there is another publisher who does a 'Bible' series of PC book. The ones I have are by Wiley and are a black and orangey tan cover. I can give ISBN numbers if anybody is interested, just mail me off list. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way. Apparently "SuSE Linux 10.0 Unleashed" is not for beginners. So I might get it.

If I read correctly, you seem to be talking about the SuSE 9 version. The authors of the SUSE 10 Bible are Roger Whittaker (international singer and whistler to old ladies? :-) and Justin Davies. Are those the two guys you know? I'll buy the book (for SUSE 10) if the authors are the ones you remember from SUSE UK and from the SuSE 9 Bible. Thanks, Kevin

I don't know them, but they are the same ones that wrote the SUSE 9 bible. Lots of good information in that one, and I'm seriously considering the 10 version. I'll have to migrate my 9.1 server soon, so it will be a good investment. V9 is by Davies, Whittaker and von Hagen.

Wow, surprisingly similar. Are you sure he doesn't have a secret life we don't know about? :)

Yes, they wrote the lion's share of both versions of the book. -- James Ogley james@usr-local-bin.org Packages for SUSE: http://usr-local-bin.org/rpms Make Poverty History: http://makepovertyhistory.org

Or the one in between the Pro and the OSS one. Yes, there is a version, I know because I own a copy of that. It was specially mastered for Linux-Magazine. Perhaps some of you remember the thread about it? Personally, my money is on it being the OSS version. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way. I saw this book at the bookstore yesterday, and I *think* it was the OSS version. The book looked like it was well written, but I only glanced through it. Buddy Coffey Advanced Electromagnetics

How much? Sometimes a local store beats the net and new books do not always show on Pricegrabber.com -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

Annoyingly, this will then be listed as £26UK in our bookstores. Yet $26US is actually the equivalent of approx' £14UK or £15UK. Or perhaps £30 or £35. I often see books for sale here for which British suppliers charge 50 per cent and more in sterling than US consumers are paying in dollars. But of course it's worth it for our *fantastic* all-year-round beach-wear climate - that's why we're all that lovely bronze colour.

:-)))) believe me, you would soon get bored of wall to wall unrelenting sunshine and heat. I was glad to come back to England and our supposedly awful weather after I had lived in Australia for a while. You're right about the book prices though :-( -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way.
