Hi Does anyone have any inside knowledge to the following questions: a) Why is Monodevelop not included in 9.3? b) Apparently Eclipse 3.0.1 is supposed to come with 9.3, but I cannot seem to find it in any of my CD's? Is there something I'm missing. And yes, its the professional version :) Dane-Garrn Balia "All that he thinks is all that he wills" www.novellsupport.co.za www.suse.za.net

It's on the DVD and/or FTP mirrors. The CD's have been stripped a bit. http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.h... JD
Thanks alot for the response. Clears up ALOT!
Now whose friggin idea was it to strip Eclipse and
Monodevelop *swears*
:-)
guess it needed to fit on 5 cd's.
Maybe they should have left out NotePad and Internet
Explorer :)

Well, consider this: Eclipse 3.0.2 is already out (the DVD contains 3.0.1). You might as well skip straight to the latest version, as I did.

I have also found this very frustrating - several key things are not on the CD install, that are on the DVD/network versions. I made a list as I was installing: - thunderbird - eclipse - postgresql - jpilot - Sun JDK 1.5 (aka 5.0) - freemind Some of these are somewhat java-developer-specific, but not including thunderbird boggles me. And not including postgresql annoys me :) MySQL has been catching up, but I still prefer postgresql. They should call this "Suse Professional Lite" :-) - Korny gw01f Wolfie wrote:

Are you saying your 9.3 DVD contains FreeMind? Mind doesn't. It has KDissert and Vym, but not FreeMind.

Sorry, got that one wrong, I got freemind from freemind.sourceforge.net. I must have assumed it was from Suse because it integrated nicely with the Kde menus :) (I don't have a 9.3 DVD - I'm using CDs, plus pointing Yast at ftp://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/suse/i386/9.3/, plus using apt4rpm to get the latest jpackage.org goodies) - Korny

Hate to have to say this Kornelis, but this has been discussed a number of times on here. There have been packages on the DVD that are not on the CD's for the last few releases. It's a matter of space on the media. SuSE can get more on the DVD than they can on the CD's. Don't forget that source code has to be included too. It's caught a few of us out, me included but that's not difficult ;-))) -- Take care. Kevan Farmer 34 Hill Street Cheslyn Hay Staffordshire WS6 7HR

That's nice. Where in the menu structure did it appear? But now I have another problem. When I try to install it, I get this: % rpm -i --test freemind-0.7.1-6.noarch.rpm error: Failed dependencies: java_runtime >= 1.4 is needed by freemind-0.7.1-6 This is the RPM that was linked from the main FreMind page under SusE 9.0, so I suppose that's part of the problem. Which RPM did you use? I definitely have all the Java stuff installed, both 1.4.2 and 1.5.0: % rpm -qa |egrep java |wc -l 95 That includes these: % rpm -qa |egrep java |egrep ^java- |sort java-1_4_2-sun-1.4.2.06-4 java-1_4_2-sun-alsa-1.4.2.06-4 java-1_4_2-sun-demo-1.4.2.06-4 java-1_4_2-sun-devel-1.4.2.06-4 java-1_4_2-sun-jdbc-1.4.2.06-4 java-1_4_2-sun-src-1.4.2.06-4 java-1_5_0-sun-1.5.0_01-5 java-1_5_0-sun-alsa-1.5.0_01-5 java-1_5_0-sun-demo-1.5.0_01-5 java-1_5_0-sun-devel-1.5.0_01-5 java-1_5_0-sun-jdbc-1.5.0_01-5 java-1_5_0-sun-plugin-1.5.0_01-5 java-1_5_0-sun-src-1.5.0_01-5 I could probably "--force" the installation and get away with it, but I'd rather not.

Your list is woefully inadequate. Check the official list from Novell/Suse: http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/diff_cd_dvd.html -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
You can find eclipse from ftp://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/suse/i386/9.3/ using yast -- Laurent Renard
