[opensuse] samba configuration
I am new to OpenSuse. I recently installed it using VMWare Fusion residing on an iMac. The OpenSuse guest system shares the network with the iMac. I managed to connect to the internet via DSL cable, also to send mails. Here is my problem. I can't connect to the Samba server, regardless whether I use the file browser or the Samba client software smb4k. I am attaching my Samba configuration file for your perusal. Thanks in advance or your reply.

Did you make sure that samba port is open in firewall? Yast --> Security --> Firewall allow samba server and client. -- Michael S. Dunsavage -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Also, Did you create a samba password for the user you are trying to connect as on the machine hosting the shares? smbpasswd -a username You have smb and nmb running on the host, right? rcnmb start rcsmb start You are trying to connect from "10.0.0.150, 10.0.0.146" and not another IP? Why not just: hosts allow = 127.0.0.1, 10.0.0. (period required at the end) Is your backend configure properly? Why not just the samba password file? You have: passdb backend = tdbsam You could simply use: smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd. You might also try: disable spoolss = yes Why "valid users = %S, %D%w%S" It might be right, I don't know. I don't have one in my homes definition. Other than those thoughts, your smb.conf looks fine. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
