Hi, When we import messages from other systems to KMail, all messages are marked unread. Is there an automatic way to mark all messages read? Regards Lívio Cipriano

Not automatically, AFAIK, but close: right-click a folder and click "Mark all Messages as Read" -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W. Watts

That is true, but my (and I think others) problem is when there is a folder structure: you have to go folder by folder, level by level, marking the messages as unread. Lívio
Hi, Can anybody tell me how to play movies (VCD, mpeg, avi etc) in SuSE 10.1. I have tried the usual players that come with suse installation, but they are throwing different errors. Most of them are codec oriented. I don't know how to get a codec from net or install that. I am quite new with Linux, so please explain as much as possible. Or give me a pointer to any online material. Thanks in advance. Bikram Chatterjee

I'll probably be arrested for telling you this, but... http://www.tweakhound.com/linux/suse/101/installing_1.htm Follow the portion about installing SMART and then the Multimedia Support. The basic mail folder structure is more or less standard; but not so the way each program saves things like read status. You are out of luck. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Many thanks for your reply, Kai, I gone through the link you suggested. I had all the packages installed during SUSE installation and I use GNOME. Amarok amarok-xine flash-player k3b (upgrade it and add k3b-mad) kaffeine lame MPlayer RealPlayer xine-ui xmms I tried all of them and none worked. Do you suggest to uninstall and reinstall them? Of course, but not the ones from SuSE, they are "crippled". By the way, notice that your previous message hijacked a thread. We were talking about "KMail read messages". - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Install the packman sources and grab mplayer. You'll save a lot of time. Steve.

You can put a button on the KMail toolbar that marks all messages in the current folder as read. Right click the toolbar and choose "Configure toolbars" The button looks like a black foot. Drag it to where you want it. It's still a bit manual for your task, but it's how I keep on top of this list. michaelj -- Michael James michael.james@csiro.au System Administrator voice: 02 6246 5040 CSIRO Bioinformatics Facility fax: 02 6246 5166 No matter how much you pay for software, you always get less than you hoped. How is that any better than right-clicking the folder name? -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Hi Bikram, You should install MPlayer to play the media files that you mentioned. Regards, Madhu they are

What, then? Did your mail client malfunction and act as if you used "reply" when in fact you issued its "post new message" command? Do you not remember replacing an existing subject line with a new one? If you don't know what you did wrong, you're probably going to do it again. Don't use "reply" to initiate a new topic.

It's a simple click each time, rather than click-drag-menu-select-click. I've started to get mouse arm, and the first question they asked me is, "Do you do a lot of click-dragging" evidently it's worse. Carlos, that's what I was about to say. Why is it that trackballs are used by so few when they are so comfortable? --ED--
Beats me, but now that I've got one I'll never go back. :-) Jesse

Well... I can think some reasons. Let me see... they are not as "intuitive" as the mouse for a first timer. They are more expensive. The first contact will surely be with a mouse 90% of times. Switchover can take some time, as many things in computers (learning curve). I switched when I was testing one for a client over a week or two. We wanted a mouse that could work in a mechanics shop, with inevitable dirt and grease... and it did: the ball has little dots that are read directly without wheels. It took some time to get used to, but I noticed that my elbow ache disappeared. Instead I get sometimes a slight thumb ache. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
