I've tried removing and re-adding needed libraries. I even tried getting the latest drivers (just released), but everytime I try to compile Evolution 0.12 I it gets errors and won't install (it configures fine now, but shows errors on the compile). I tried the Ximian rpm, but it keeps having 'issues' with missing libraries that weren't needed a week ago (the latest being libgtkhtml.so.14 -- the Evolution tar ball said it only needed 0.11, I installed 0.12). From what I saw from Evolution, I liked it as I need a decent PIM. However, I do NOT like Ximian Gnome because it makes compiling other programs and such a chore and takes away some of the choices I like (and it took them **way** too long to support SuSE 7.1 or 7.2). I'm almost to the point of giving up. Anyone got any useful suggestions?

I already had setup evolution and its up and running on 7.2 thanks to Rober Barish's suggestion. I used ReD Carpet to install evolution, initially it didn't run and robert was right to point out it was lacking some packages. did a bash run on evolution and the bonobo package wasn't installed so I installed it via red carpet. What I did to my system was: 1. Install Xfree 4.1.0 (Got all packages from SuSE ftp site) 2. Install Ximian GNOME ( I used the SuSE 7.2 installer from the Ximian Site) 3. Used Red Carpet to Install Evolution and the needed libraries. 4. Good as brewed morning coffee! =) Hth, chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Good as brewed morning coffee! =) I tried to do the update via RC and there were 29 pkgs that it said I could get as updates for 7.2, but after tagging them for download it errored and said "Unresolved Dependancies"..so I went to ftp.ximian.com and not one of the version numbers for the updates were in the 7.2 directory. I'm confused. Do they keep the updates in a different place for RC to look at? And if so..where? -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org cat CE|ME|NT|XP > /dev/null

Are you currently running ximian gnome? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Messenger http://im.yahoo.com

Well, I have it installed..but I was trying to run RC from with KDE2.2 which shouldn't make much of a difference..unless it checks running applications..which would be silly. Any thoughts on this? -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org cat CE|ME|NT|XP > /dev/null

Not much doubt in my mind that what is in the ftp site available at ximian is not what you get with the installer and Red Carpet. For example if you use the installer and red carpet on a SuSE 7.2 system you get a functioning version of Evo 0.13. Go to the ftp site and the Evo that is there is Evo 0.11. Having played with this for about 2 weeks now on several different SuSE sytems, I am firmly convinced that the simplest, easiest way to get evo up and running is to use the installer and Red Carpet. Once you have evo working it should work fine in KDE 2.2 as it works fine in 2.1.2. Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? Install Ximian gnome and then use Red Carpet to install evolution plus its dependencies plus the bonobo-conf and libbonobo-conf. On a SuSE 7.2 system this will give you a working evolution 0.13. Once you have evolution working you can use it in the window manager of your choice. Downloading Ximian to get Evolution probably makes evolution the bloat champion of the world. Two of the people I have done this for have said that evolution was worth it. Compiling evolution and tracking down the dependencies for evolution was a royal pain. It would take 2 days to get Evo 0.11 working; downloading ximian and resolving the dependencies for evolution is about 2 hours (ADSL) and you get Evo 0.13 on a SuSE 7.2 system. Evo 0.13 is noticably improved over 0.11. Ximian definitely took their time supporting SuSE 7.1 and 7.2 (and Mandrake 7.2 and 8.0). But they are currently supporting these distos now. Ximian has been very responsive to email comments from SuSE users in the last week that I am aware of.
