Hi, Anyone knows how to turn existing SuSE Linux installed onto HD into LiveCD? Its quite easy with Debian (which is forked into Knoppix), but how to do the same with SuSE? I know SuSE have Live CD, so someone have done it already. Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s). ********************************************* * Best Regards --- Andrei Verovski * * Personal Home Page * http://snow.prohosting.com/guru4mac/ * Mac, Linux, DTP, Development, IT WEB Site *********************************************

You might try Linux Live (http://www.linux-live.org/), which, although developed on Slackware, is supposed to work with any distro. It also seems to be maintained better than Bernhard's Bootable CD, which Bruce suggested. I want to try Linux-Live shortly for our Welsh bootable CD, so I'd be very interested in any feedback you have if you use it. Gentoo also has a tool called Catalyst to make liveCDs, but that probably requires a degree of Gentoo knowledge. LiveCDs are actually quite fiddly to get right, and it would be great if there were some sort of "pizza-topping" app where you could choose apps from a menu and have them added to a base iso (preferably based on SuSE!). Things haven't progressed to that stage yet, unfortunately, which is a pity because liveCDs are great things to get Windows-users (especially minority language speakers) interested in Linux. Another alternative (from the demo point of view) might be setting up an NX server with a front-end to give people a password to log in and try a Linux desktop. But again, NX isn't quite developed enough yet for that. -- Pob hwyl (Best wishes) Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD!
Isn't mindi supposed to do that? Don't know a whole lot about it. Thought that mindi would take whatever you have intstalled and move it out to cd.... maybe that was knoppix. I think it was mondorescue that was using mindi to re-install your system from a backup. speaking of which, if anyone has ever used or heard of mondorescue, check out thier site and lend some support to help protect open-source mondorescue.org B-) On Wednesday 01 December 2004 11:37 am, Andrei Verovski wrote:

It might be more compelling if they gave a bit of the background.... -- Pob hwyl (Best wishes) Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD!
Hi, Thanks for everyone who replied. At first, Its seems that http://www.linux-live.org/ - Linux Live is a set of bash scripts which allows users to create their own live CD from any Linux distribution. is what I have looked for. However, it requires kernel Overlay Filesystem support, which is available ONLY for 2.4 kernels, at least so is written at ofs web site. However, recent Knoppix 3.6 and 3.7 do support 2.6 kernel, so it looks like Klaus Knopper used something else. The question is "WHAT" and will it work on SuSE. PS. mondorescue is a backup program, which create bootable CD or DVD backups.

Hi Andrei et al, I don't know how to make a LiveCD, but if you can pick up "Linux Format" from the UK, it has a livecd with issue #61. Its the current issue, you should be able to find it on the newsstands right now. Hope this helps, JIM On Thursday 02 December 2004 11:23, Andrei Verovski wrote:
