Installed MPlayer on SuSE 9.1 from the packman site. During installation of libdvd, I got the messages: warning: user rainer does not exist - using root warning: group ls does not exist - using root Does not seem to be a problem - playing DVDs goes fine but I get a continous stream of error messages: ALSA lib control.c:654:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL alsa-control: mixer attach error: No such file or directory Can I avoid this? Karel De Vriendt I could almost go for a stream of error messages ...if a DVD would play at all in either Mplayer or Xine. How'd you manage to do this? I also installed all pkgs from Packman. :-\ -- ...CH SuSE 9 Works Linux user# 313696 Linux box# 199365

I just installed OGLE & it works as described --except it has no gui. What gives? Guess I'll check Packman's site, unless you can direct me elsewhere. Sorry 'bout hijacking your thread, Karel De Vriendt, back to you. <G> -- ...CH SuSE 9 Works Linux user# 313696 Linux box# 199365

Ogle has a gui, go to freshmeat.net and type there Ogle, you'll get what you need. Ogle supports dvd menu but mplayer doesn't support so if you care for menus it's better. Mplayer can play .vob files from DVD camera which Ogle can't though. I use both for this reason. Martin

Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Messenger. http://messenger.yahoo.com/ I was on freshmeat & had problems w/navigation when I attempted to get goggle. The link just reloaded the same page. <LOL> As for the kde-friendly gui, it calls for libqt3 (YaST says qt3 is installed) and it won't compile. Any further suggestions?
Thanks! -- ...CH SuSE 9 Works Linux user# 313696 Linux box# 199365

Whenever you compile any package, you need the -devel (or -dev) package for the dependencies as well as the main package. I.e. install qt3-devel and try to compile again. Jeffrey

Jeffrey Oh hell... <LOL> ...now it the compilation effort for okle-0.4 states as follows: [checking for KDE... configure: error: in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail. So, check this please and use another prefix!] ...so I tried something: USE="-KDE" & tried again to see if the same error would happen... it did.
The good news is that I finally found an RPM for SuSE. <G> Voila! -- ...CH SuSE 9 Works Linux user# 313696 Linux box# 199365

Did you compile libdvdcss2 for the dvd decoding? That is no longer provided, due to legal reasons and must be user built. Lee -- --- KMail v1.6.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

No, I installed all available rpms from Packman (http://packman.links2linux.de/download.php?t=b&id=4691) (also install the 'zusätzlich benötigte Binär-Pakete') at that time (about a month and a half ago?), and had no trouble from there, but as said: I do run mplayer from the commandline, without a gui: mplayer -fs dvd://1 (or //2, //3, etc. depending on which section I want to watch) Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Ok, I just updated the SuSE hardware tool to automatically open a dvd with gmplayer -fs dvd://1, and it appears to work fine for me (with gui). The only issue I have is that the menu's of the dvd do not appear to work. How is that with Ogle? Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Pieter Hulshoff For my 2 cents... the okle gui works [mostly] fine w/Ogle ...except when you want to go Full Screen. Then, it hangs & has to be killed which, of course, takes the viewer with it. That seems to be the only thing that doesn't work ...so far. -- ...CH SuSE 9 Works Linux user# 313696 Linux box# 199365
