TV + fullscreen does not work
Hi all. Since I'm not sure whether I should upgrade to 9.0 or keep 8.2 I give 9.0 a try on a small partition. TV works fine except for the fullscreen mode. If I try to switch to fullscreen mode (motv, xawtv) nothing at all happens. I spend the evening reading manuals and faqs without any success. The latest Nvidia driver is installed. Thanks for your help. Fabian

Hello I realised with 8.2 (same applies to 9.0) that the only way to get the telly working in a nice way for me was to grab the lates CVS snapshot of Qtvision and compile+install it. Development of Kwintv has been dropped in favor of Qtvision. Kwintv site has the links to Qtvision. Cheers, --Jyry C|:-( C|:-/ C|========8-O C|8-/ C|:-(

Interesting. I used KWinTV on 8.2 but it even doesn't start on 9.0 (both with the SUSE default and latest KDE 3.1.4). So I have switched to motv which works OK on 9.0. -- A.M.

I had some really strange problems with motv and xawtv as well as kwintv. I could get xawtv to work except for full screen, kwintv would start fine, but would never stop until I forcefully killed it and then it left the final image on the desktop. I know that support for kwintv has basically stopped as they more toward qtvision. But I discovered that mplayer will work with v4l and I use it. Full Screen works fine with it. I wrote a simple shell script (included below) that will take a channel number as an argument and will start playing the TV there. It works and wll go to full screen with little or now problem. I am doing this with NVidia 4496 build, but that shouldn't be affected with the latest build. I have been too busy over the holidays to upgrade to latest build yet. #!/bin/sh /usr/bin/amixer set "Capture" 5 unmute /usr/bin/amixer set "Aux" 25 capture unmute /usr/bin/mplayer -tv on:driver=v4l:width=640:height=480:outfmt=i420:alsa:forceaudio:forcechan=2:amode=1:chanlist=us-cable:channel=e $1:norm=NTSC:adevice=2 -vc rawi420 -vo xv -stop_xscreensaver -- Kelly L. I had problems with that a while ago but discovered that when the colour depth was changed from 24 bit to 16 bit the fullscreen mode worked fine again. /Lars Fabian Niestroj wrote:

I've noticed the full screen mode (F) in MoTV doesn't work on my computer with Matrox G200 (default driver in 9.0) and 24 bit color depth too so the problem is not related to the Nvidia driver. I can increase the size of the window via the window manager but in this case I see black vertical bars on the right side of the image. I haven't tried the 16 bit color depth. -- A.M.
Hi all, I noticed that we haven't found a solution to this problem. I have, however, confirmed that the tv apps definitely don't get to use XV. I had the TV running (xawtv), while messing about with mplayer, and I noticed that mplayer was still using XV. So, any ideas why the TV apps can't get XV? Thanks Hans
