[SLE] Is this an unsupported video card?
On one machine setting up X was so simple that I don't remember how I did it. I guess I ran sax, but I can't remember. Running sax on a new machine didn't work. Here's the output from ServerLog and StartLog. ========== ServerLog ========== Free86 Version 3.3.5 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6300) Release Date: August 23 1999 If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems. run xf86config Much better for setting up. Had too many failures with Sax. Especially with my S3 Savage! Kev
Kev and Bill, I have had problems with Sax. It has turned out to be the mouse causing the problems. The same can be said for xf86config. A long time ago I ended up reading the man pages, and/or HowTo for XFree86 in order to get what I needed for my video card. It was a bit tough, but I finally figured it out. One good idea might be to determine the exact make and model of your card and ask the list if anybody is using it. They could send you the settings they have in their /etc/XF86Config, and as long as you adjust for the correct pointing device and monitor parameters, you should be able to use their settings.
