Hi: I installed the new Nvidia driver, 6106. When I switch to a text console, the text is still huge extending beyond the right side of the screen, and with green snow. Sometimes the display flickers. I have tried vga=normal as well, but still broken. I wrote an extensive documentation of this on the nvidia forum. But no fix. Bummer! Am I missing any other things that must be done to fix this? Also, I am using a flatpanel with DVI interface. Thanks. -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. yes also got a bummer console as well getting to be a pain in the rear end now not shure but i think it may be to do with the frame buffer settings but cant work out how to change things , The frame buffer runs at 800x600 but the monitor is native at 1280x1024 which i believe is confusing the hell out of the video card Ge force FX5200 Needs sorting . Did you try without "vga=normal" ? Is TV-out enabled in XF86Config ? Is there a TV cable connected to your card ? With these replies I think I'll be able to help you, since I succeeded with my two boxes. Michel

Hi: I have tried vga=0x317 result is broken console vga=normal result is broken console vga=<none> result is broken console By "<none>" I mean that the boot parameter was not present at all, on the boot prompt. Any clues about what to do next? There must be some other configuration aspects that are involved. Thanks. -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. Ok, but you didn't reply to my two other questions ! Is there a TV input connected to your card ? Is TV out enabled in XF86Config ? Michel.

Oops, sorry about that. I see no indications in /etc/X11/XF86Config that the TV out is enabled. There is no TV capability for this card anyway, so certainly there is no TV input connected. This is an MSI FX5200 card that I bought specifically because it was inexpensive with a DVI output. The DVI output only works with the nvidia driver. Actually I'm not sure if the same text console problems occur with the analog out. Thanks for the response to my problem. I'll be interested in your suggestions. Oh, I also had submitted this problem to the nvidia forum back during the 5336 release of the driver. No solution arose from that effort. I'm not sure if I have understood what you're saying here, but I have and MSI boad with an FX5200 card and the DVI output works fine with the standard nv driver too. I gave up on the nvidia driver because it was unstable, but I haven't tried the new one. - Richard. -- Richard Kimber http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/

OK, after a last idea, I think I'll give up. I'd similar problems with release 5336, I'd to come back to telease 4620 (www.minion.de for kernel 2.4 or 2.6) and it worked like a charm. Have a try. If it doesn't work I suggest you visit the forum Nvidia and Linux at http://www.nvnews.net you'll certainly meet someone with your card and your problem. Sorry. Michel.

That's quite alright. I have appreciated your dialog on the matter. Perhaps I will have a try at the older version. I also did post to the Nvidia Linux forum, and reached a similar conclusion. Good day! -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. Carlen Principal Laser/Optical Technologist Sandia National Laboratories CA USA crcarle@sandia.gov
With default framebuffer configuration from suse I don't have any problem with nvidia drivers (tested with 9.0 & 9.1). You should try other configurations anyway (or even disable FBuffer). But people from nvnews.net usually say that a BIOS upgrade (video card, not MBoard) fixes problems with broken consoles. Unfortunately some card manufacturers (chaintech and others) do not release any BIOS revisions, so that may be a big problem for some. ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo!
