RE: [SLE] NFS mount at boot not working
It's a 'maybe', but: do you have NIS accounting? In that case maybe the hostname 'cyclops' is not known at that stage... Regards Harry

Can anyone explain why this isn't working? In /etc/fstab I have:
cyclops:/shared /mnt/shared nfs auto 0 0
...as my last entry (watch wrapping - that's all one line). However, when I reboot I always have to manually mount that share with 'mount -a' as root.
Formerly I was a Mandrake (ugh) user and this method always worked. The only clue is at boot regarding a change in the sync/nosync option for nfs. Not sure if this is really the cause or not though.
Any ideas?
thanks!

Or alternatively, if your NFS client machine is also your DNS server, the NFS mount will be happening before named is started, so it can't look up 'cyclops' Try mounting it by IP... -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1). Turns out it was syntax. I went the long way round and configured /etc/fstab via YaST. It wrote: cyclops.njmc.com:/shared on /mnt/shared type nfs (rw,addr=192.168.2.52) Which is pretty different from what I was using: cyclops:/shared /mnt/shared nfs auto 0 0 Looking through /etc/fstab I see this syntax is pretty consistent, but not one I'm familiar with. Anyone know if this is a SuSE thing or a newly adopted format? -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions
