Hello , First of all excuse my english . I am trying to install cdrecord in my PC with a IDE CD Recorder . To install the ide-scsi emulation It is supposed I have to edit the lilo.conf file , and put in the append line something like that : append="hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" but I have an append line wih the next text : "BOOT_FILE=/boot/vmlinuz" I have no idea what is the purpose of the BOOT_FILE parameter . I have tried with : append="BOOT_FILE=/boot/vmlinuz hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" but it does not seem to work . May anyone tell me what is the BOOT_FILE parameter for ? and How can I configurate the ide-scsi emulation ? Personal Suse Linux 7.1 Thanks. Hi Hugo, The BOOT_FILE parameter will set which kernel to boot. The kernel is just a file mosly called vmlinuz or vmlinuz_24 (kernel 2.4.x under SuSE). So with this parameter you can change your default kernel to boot with. Sorry, I can't help you with the rest of your problem. Greetings, Nash On Saturday 16 June 2001 20:37, you wrote:

This assumes you have two CD devices. If you have only one, and it is the master on the second IDE channel, then append="hdc=ide-scsi" may be all you need. The book's example isn't real clear on this.

As far as I know, that line is left over from the last time LILO was modified. Just type over it with your new append instruction. I just did that today (using YAST) and had no problem. If you are editing the file directly, you could comment out that line then add your new append line.
I have tried with :
append="BOOT_FILE=/boot/vmlinuz hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi"

No, that won't work.

apart from the other suggestions made, did you rerun "lilo" to rewrite the boot loader? Juergen
