I used xfig... that was about ten years ago and it was pretty good then. I was able to do a primitive sort of 3-D designing because one drawing can have multiple layers. So I had one for the floor where the base cabinets, another layer for the top surface of the countertop showing the sink and cooktop etc, another layer for the cabinets that hung on wall. There's libraries of components you can drag onto your drawing-- e.g., furniture, pipes, fuse boxes-- and you can also use xfig to create your own components and libraries. Because xfig knows the size of components, you don't have to resize them to include in your drawing. xfig looks a little clunky, but it works really well. -- "This world ain't big enough for the both of us," said the big noema to the little noema.

http://appdb.winehq.org/search.php?q=ikea but I don't speak Swedish. That link leads to a Swedish page. I found what I think is the English equivalent. http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/complete_kitchen_guide/planner_tool/index.html From the sample pictures I see, it looks like the Swedish are a little smarter with kitchen design than some here. The original link was for a wine page so I am assuming this windows app works with wine. It looks like a very nice tool.

What do they say about assumptions? If you read the wine page you'll see that it says it doesn't work. But that doesn't matter because if you click on the link for the English version of the program, you'll find it's no longer available anyway. Oh well. Cheers, Dave

I have a fix for this in the SUSE WINE RPMs, but it is too ugly for submissions. It also has the affect of doing GL over the whole window, obscuring the control elements. And it is not a very good program anyway. ciao, Marcus
