Howdy, I installed Mozilla 9.0.2 on SuSe 7.1 with KDE 2.1.2 and they have fixed the problem with opening xpi files. It now opens them, but when I open and install jre.xpi it does that, and you can see all the plugins for the java registered but then the next time you start Mozilla it just stalls and never shows up. Something similar happened to me... I installed the java plugin as root, and then when I fired it up (as root) it stalled, as you describe, but... as a regular user it works perfect! Note sure if it helps, but you may get some ideas out of it, Alvaro Novo SuSE 7.1 Pro -=- Kernel 2.4.2-4GB -=- KDE 2.2-Alpha2 10:02pm up 23:19, 2 users, load average: 0.09, 0.05, 0.04
I'll try that. Thanks. I tried it as root but never logged in as a regular user. Cheers Rich

No, I didn't see it (I also am using version 0.9.2(!)). The jre.xpi
installed fine and all the plugins show up on the next Mozilla start.

Same thing here -- where did you get the jre.xpi and what version? -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A. P. J.

Can't remember the exact link, but if you visit a site like this: ds.creatures.net it wil prompt you to but you must be root when doing this or it will fail to install. If you need the link to the jre.xpi I'll start looking, unless someone else finds it first :-). Matt

the http://www.mozilla.org site had a link to the jre.xpi file from the download page for 0.9.2 for Linux. I downloaded this and attempted to install it as root. It seemed to install OK, but the next time I started Mozilla, I got a dialog that said something like, "Previous installation attempt did not finish. Please restart". I could not get rid of the message, so I re-installed from scratch without the plug-ins last night. -ronc
When you get this message, close the running copy of Mozilla, and then use
ps xa|grep -i mozilla to find the other copies of mozilla which are running
and kill them. Then try to run mozilla again as a regular user. This is
what I did and it worked fine (I forgot I had to do so). Better yet, as I
mentioned in a previous posting, if you do Java development, get the
Blackdown 1.3 JDK and follow their instructions on how to install their
plugin. It seems to work better then the Netscape/Mozilla supplied one.

Ya, that's exactly what I got. The Previous install thing......I had to bail out of it and then ran it again and it stalled.

I downloaded it from the Netscape site.
BTW, if you develop with Java and have the Blackdown 1.3 JDK, it comes with
a Java plugin for Netscape/Mozilla and also konqueror works great with it
(which is not the case with the IBM jdk).
