Switching between KDE and Gnome
Is there a simple way of switching between KDE and Gnome, like the switcher in Red Hat 9?
Is there a simple way of switching between KDE and Gnome,
I'm assuming you're running in a broadly default arrangement, so you'll be logging in using KDM... Simply select the session type you want when you're logging in. -- James Ogley, UNIX Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 www.pinnacle.co.uk Personal: james@rubberturnip.org.uk www.rubberturnip.org.uk Updated GNOME packages for SUSE LINUX: www.usr-local-bin.org

I do not know the switcher in Red Hat 9, but you might have a look at this message, 'Switching between window managers on the fly' and follow the thread. http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-Mar/0636.html SH

In SUSE 9.1 it is called "Switch User" on the KDE main menu. You can also start another session from the "Lock Desktop" feature where there is a "Switch User" button. This starts another virtual terminal session with GUI (ctrl+alt+F8). Provides the basic KDE login (default of 9.1) and there under the Menu button option is Session Type where you can choose your GUI. Remeber that the last Desktop Manager you start up in this manner will be the default! If Xfce4 is the last session you start up and then logout of all these sessions, when you login tomorrow Xfce4 will be the default GUI. Don't know that there is a stand-alone program that allows one to switch from any session to another... Stan
