[SLE] SuSE 7 - NSCD starting by itself???
Why would the NSCD daemon start by itself in suse 7. I have it turned off in the configuration file, and there is nothing for nscd in the inetd.conf. And, how do I stop it? After you turned it off in the configuration file, did you run SuSEconfig? THat has to be run to commit the changes, IIRC. HTH, Geordon At 09:22 AM 10/6/00, Chris Geske wrote:

Yes, ran suseconfig a number of times now. It's strange, the daemon doesn't start up immediately after boot, but sometimes quite a few hours after boot. You could always uninstall the nscd package :> J. | John Patterson / Jarel on Snowplains (telnet to snowplains.org 3456) | | Email: jarel@snowplains.org | Web: http://snowplains.org/~jarel/ | -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Much as I hate to follow up my own post, I've just checked and nscd is part of the shlibs package, so this obviously isn't an option. YaST restarts nscd when you modify any user data or create new users by running "/sbin/init.d/nscd restart". Unfortunately, the script does not check, if nscd should be started at all! The workaround: just rename the init script so YaST cannot find it anymore. This will be fixed for future versions.
