Sound FIXED/earlier Laptop question still needs answer
I needed to tool around with YaST and now it works. I'm not sure of what I did, but I can hear sounds now. Also, I'm still wondering if anyone knows how I can configure my laptop so that the monitor will shut off when I close the laptop up. Compaq Presario 2800T, SuSE 9.0, Ximian Desktop 2 Thanks Jack

I grabbed this tidbit somewhere. It may work as is or give you some good clues. Create the file /etc/acpi/events/lidclose with the following in it: event=button/lid LID 00000080 .* action=/etc/acpi/gotosleep /etc/acpi/gotosleep has in it: /usr/X11R6/bin/xset dpms force off echo 1 > /proc/acpi/sleep As I remember it did work, to put the system to sleep, but I never could get the screen's backlight to go off. Hope this gives some clues. Greg Engel
