Hi everybody, I am using SUSE 10.1 x86_64. I can not play movie in any of the players come bundled. I tried Xine n all. I also tried .divx .mpeg .dat etc different extentions. I downloaded rpm for vlc tried to provide all the rpm to resolve cross dependency, now I am stuck with kind of circular dependency. Please let me know, if there is a player that is easy to install and comes with basic playing capability. Thanks in advance Bikram Chatterjee

Add the packman repository as an installation source, then install mplayer from there. There's also xine stuff with the necessary support. This is all because Novell has removed anything from suse that might result in patent infringement.
Thanks for the guide.... I am quite new to it. Can you please let me know how to do that I am using GNOME. Even if you give me some pointer to online stuff, that will also help. -----Original Message----- From: Darryl Gregorash [mailto:raven@accesscomm.ca] Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2006 7:49 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Can't play movies On 2006-11-06 19:44, Bikram Chatterjee wrote:

There is a complete list of both "official" and other additional installation sources at opensuse.org, at http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories. There is also a link to instructions on how to add installation sources in Yast. Everything is listed there, including the new repositories at http://software.opensuse.org/download where you can eg. upgrade your version of KDE.
1) Start Yast from Application menu. (enter root passwork when asked) 2) Choose "Installation Source" 3) Choose "Add" ==> "HTTP" 4) Type in "Server Name" = "packman.iu-bremen.de" Type in "Directory on Server" = "suse/10.0" (CHANGE 10.0 to 10.1 if that's what your running) 5) Click "Enable" and "Refresh" 6) Choose "Finish" 7) Choose "Software Management" 8) In "Search" field type in "mplayer" and choose it. If you wan't you could also get: * mplayer-plugin for Firefox. * w32codecs-all 9) Choose "Accept" ==> Voila! (To play Music (mp3) and alike "Amarok" is the best. Amarok you install with "yast" ~as above. A guide : http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/MP3_on_SUSE_Linux_10.1 The guide is needed because Suse Linux don't have the codecs from the beginning (patents/copyrights or so) Tip: Google for "mplayer suse 10.x" and so forth... -- /Peo -- Registered Linux User #432116, get counted at http://counter.li.org www.whylinuxisbetter.net -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
