These messages were produced by the system logging daemon on machine "ptorico". The system logging daemon produces a MARK message every twenty minutes, automatically, simply because the clock says twenty minutes has passed since the last one. It serves to certify that said daemon is in fact running and connected to the file. In other words, all these things MEAN is that an important system security component is functioning properly. If those are all the messages you have, then not much else is happening. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Just had this problem and this is what cures it (courtesy of someone else)
This is from the syslog daemon (syslogd) the default is 20 min. Change with
syslogd -m(interval) Zero will shut it off. See also man syslogd.

It's hardly a problem. I think most people would be alarmed if these messages *stopped* appearing. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
