Changing Konquerors ID string for MSN.com only !!
For those chatting about MSN.com closing you out, are you aware that you can change the ID string in konqueror on a site specific basis. Take the options: Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> User Agent (side bar) Click "New.." then add msn.com into the site field and from the pull down menu select .. Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0) Click "Update list" and "OK" and you're off. Some of the other options might work too. The good thing about this is it fools MSN but still promotes Linux and Konqueror to the rest of the world. Why you might want to go to MSN in the first place of cause is entirely up to you :-) John

Yes, I think we are. ;-) Don't even want to go to MSN.com; it's the
precedence that this may set (albeit M$ seem to be backtracking already).

Here's a thought .. today they closed off MSN.com to non MS systems. What if they do that next year with .NET to anything that isn't Microsoft, and all of a sudden you find you can't do online banking, or shopping, etc, etc unless you're running XP. Scarey huh !

There is another precedent. The British government gave a contract to M$ to set up their "e-government" (an initiative to allow the citizenry to interact with the govt via the Internet). Guess what? the only browser that would work was M$ IE. Our technically illiterate government took some weeks to understand the problem before they could be persuaded to get M$ to reverse that decision. Once is a glitch - twice is a corporate policy.

Hi: Well, personally, it would just mean that errands will have to be run. Changes will have to be made. A new bank, new shopping, etc., etc., arranged. M$ can be just another AOL, and those who choose it, do so with their eyes wide open [probably that M$ glazed look, as usual]. The rest of us have choices, as well. My worry, is that we're speeding down the tracks, headed straight to the "Global Gate", where, if you are NOT running "approved, certified, registered" interactive devices, like LinuxOS, you are without access, and ICANN could care less, period! Now, that's SCARY!!! As of today, we have DMCA and SSSCA, and Germany's ISP reporting all communications, in place and operating at full steam. Now, that's SCARY!!! Go ahead, say something, and see how quickly they're knocking/bashing down your door! Go ahead, write some little nonsensical code, put it in an email, and claim it "cracks" such-and-such, and see what happens. Tom

I walked across a bridge the other day that expressly forbids people from walking on it. If the Dutch Police are listening, it was the one that joins Kralingse Zoom Metro and Rivium. I await the knock on the door... :) -- Regards Cliff
