Anyone successfully config a linksys wireless wpc11 to linksys pcmcia wap11 card on SuSE 8.2 pro ? I've tried the yast2 dialogs and specify wireless etc. The dialogue prompts for ESSID and NWID. The only thing close that I see on the AP is SSID Any pointers will be appreciated Gary Ernst

I'm currently using a WPC11v3 card in 8.2 with the stock kernel. This did require configuration manually rather than by YaST (as YaST seems to want to assign incorrect modules -IF- it even detected it at all) but it's now running no problem at all. You'll need to insure you have the kernel source installed in order to compile the new modules as well. First, get the latest copy of the hostap drivers from here: http://hostap.epitest.fi/ (0.0.3 seems to be the latest version) Untar, and run 'make pccard' and then as root run 'make install_pccard' to install the modules and the hostap_cs.conf into the /etc/pcmcia directory. - NOTE: This is under the assumption you're using the kernel PCMCIA modules, and not the external pcmcia-cs modules. If you're uncertain at all, the changes are likely you're using the kernel modules and are completely fine. If you haven't already done so, put the card in your system and make sure your PCMCIA services pick it up, even if incorrectly. Run the command 'cardctl ident' and locate the manfid for your card (mine is '0x0274, 0x1613' but yours may be different) and then grep for that manfid out of all the files in your /etc/pcmcia directory. Each occurance will reference which module to load for that manfid. You want to use the 'hostap_cs' module, so make your changes accordingly. Restart the PCMCIA services, and you should now have a wlan0 interface. From here, I manually created a ifcfg-wlan0 file with all my network/wireless settings. The card has been running cleanly for quite some time now, though it was frustrating getting it to run at first. Hopefully, we'll see some patches from SuSE in the future so it's not so tedious for a beginner. =) Good luck! -John -- Where zen ends, the ass kicking begins...
