installing suse 8.1 reiserfs on LVM on MD RAID1 on scsi 7902
Hi, I am trying to get an system to boot after installing SUSE 8.1 My configuration is as follows. TYAN Thunder K7X Pro 2469UGN , It has the built in Adaptec 7902 two channel scsi comntroler. Dule AMD Processors. 1GIG Memory. When I set the system up via the instalation I created a /boot partition 16 MEG on /dev/sda1 I also create an equal size partion on /dev/sdb1 both are formated ext2, I then created /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 as /dev/md0
From their I created a VG on /dev/md0 I partioned it up into the various LV's including swap.
Everything installed without any errors. I have lilo pointing to MBR on /dev/sda When it boots I get an error VFS panix 3a:01 no root The only way I can boot the system is to boot rescue off of cd 1 after manually loading the reiserfs and aic79xx modules. I can get the system up and manually urn vgscan and vgchange -a y and it finds my VG, I am then able to mount my file sytems and access them. I have been messing around with mk_initrd and lvmcreate_initrd for a couple of weeks in order to create viable initrd that will boot my system, but I still can not get it to work. Has anyone created a successful initrd with a similar setup? My guess is that the initrd that comes on the cdrom has the raid and lvm built into the kernel image because it does not appear to need the modules to boot.. Thanks for any suggestions.. I am at my wits end.. John Oetinger --
Has anyone been able to get a system working with root on lvm on software raid?
