unable to delelete, view some particular files as root
Hi, I'm using opensuse10.0 with my laptop. During one of last upades (I do it offline) the powersave package refuses to install (using yast) because beeing enable to create some directory. as root I'm not able to see the existence of that directory when i perform a ls -l or with a file manager. Nevertheles if i perform a ls plus some initials of the directory plus TAB key the directory shows up in the options. if I try to enter, to see or to delete the directory I'm given de message permition denied. The same happens with chmod command. The file system is reiser and returns no error at startup when the fsck is performed. I'm lost and I do not know what to do! There is another option but format the file system??? best regards, -- António Rodrigues Tomé artome@ubi.pt <---official e-mail address artome@gmail.com <---alternative security e-mail address http://www.dfisica.ubi.pt/~artome http://www.cgul.ul.pt/curric/cgul_tome.htm

Known problem. Reboot with rescue cd (installation cd), rescue system, do a "reiserfsck" on that disk. - -- Saludos, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFEBw7ntTMYHG2NR9URAli4AJ9M2myUNBTbqbOB4Mg3yq1lrf7XrwCgleZO 1BghDpktTc7xrfoBE8IHPXE= =u4U+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

It is a know "problem" or "feature" of reiserfs quick boot up filesystem check that it doesn't catch all problems. One of the symptoms is what you described. If you want to check you drive for problems, have a look into SMART - try smartctl (read man page first). It can test your disk at the same time you use the system (almost) normally. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFECJiTtTMYHG2NR9URAkVLAJ9yP41TJ4tOTgvUnGEqFP+p4r5NMgCfeRvj WdltcWMqlHbF9Wtk+SBBGtY= =qlo4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
