Hey there fellow SuSErs! I know we are all busy talking about hacks and xfs and why this or that peice of hardware doesn't work, so I thought I would throw something kinda fun into the mix. Check out the KDE2 screenshot at: http://rival.kirtland.cc.mi.us/~ashari/screenshot.png There are a few things to notice, that might not be apparent right away. 1) The kpager on the bottom right has no window decorations and seems integrated with the desktop. 2) There is a "/var/log/messages" tail going on that seems integrated with the desktop and it has no apparent window. 3) The kpager, gkrellm, and the Eterm displaying the tail do not show up in the taskbar at the top of the screen. 4) The window decorations aren't even from KDE2. 5) The desktop is using truetype fonts (not that big of a deal today, but it was still a .. ummm.. pain .. to get working) If anyone is interested, I can let you know how I did it all. Have some fun! -Steven

Actually, I'm pretty sure Steven's using the Kwin IceWM plugin (in otherwords - it is Kwin)... Regarding: http://rival.kirtland.cc.mi.us/~ashari/screenshot.png Ok, check this out, it's my script to run the kpager when KDE2 starts up: kstart --alldesktops --skiptaskbar --type dock --ontop "kpager" All you have to do is first, position kpager where you want it, quit it, and then run that command to restart it and strip it of it's decorations and "dock" it into the desktop. The same goes for Eterm, which I have used options on to strip its menu/scrollbar, and used Esetroot to set the background pixmap. The TTF is Tahoma, copied right from a Windows machine. I don't use anti-aliasing because it hurts my eyes at this resolution (1600x1200). Using Tim Butler's help, I was able to compile the IceWM decoration style into KDE2.1.1, and I modified the title bars for the Area 51 theme, for use in KDE2... I like my close button all the way to the left because it's too easy to mistakenly press it when it's so close to the maximize button at this high of a res. The style is the stock KDE2 style, with coloring set just like bluesteel on GTK. I use the BlueSteel GTK theme on my Gnome apps, and everything meshes together really well (imho of course). Have some fun :) -Steven

Give ximian a chance. (www.ximian.com)
I am using it now and it's very nice, especially the desktop and the file
manager called Nautilus.

I beg to differ. Ximian might have added some nice eyecandy, but Nautilus is mainly created by the Eazel folks. However, it is dog slow (IMHO!) and not quite as intuitive as Konqueror. In addition to that, it gets my system load up to 4-5 and I have no clue what it was doing there. Been there, done that, went back to KDE :) LenZ P.S. I don't know why they couldn't have just used the locate db .. since most Linux systems come with this by default. I was a big Gnome fan, but the last 6 months or so...I just don't see why I was. KDE2 is much more functional and stable. Konqueror is 100X better then Nautilus..and it is not dependent on Mozilla to do it's web browsing.. hi !
does any one know a geek code generator ?
Running head first into a wall and writing down what comes in your mind usually does the trick. If that's too painfull try hitting the keyboard at random witha string bias to + and - signs. Failing all that, do a google search (www.google.com) on geek code generator. Currently listening to: Arrogant Worms - A Man Has Needs (DIRT!)
