[opensuse] upnp camera setup?
I'm looking into hooking up some IP cameras for monitoring on a Linux box. I'm not sure they're 100% Upnp, but I see a broadcast on port 1900 every 2 seconds. I've tried with VLC which sees my mythtv installation, but none of the cameras. The cameras of course come with their own Windows software, but I really need them to work with Linux. Any hints or suggestions (other than "buy another camera")? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.3°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Per, Have you located documentation online for the cameras? Make, model and revision numbers, etc.? I'd think that would be a 'best first step' for this kind of question. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yep, been there, done that - nothing found. This is the camera: http://www.conrad.ch/ce/de/product/754134/Ueberwachungskamera-IR-LAN-Farb-Ka... One of the manuals even lists uPnP support, so it ought ot work. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

using tcpdump I have ascertained that the camera does indeed broadcast upnp on port 1900. The M-SEARCH packet has this: ST: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:InternetGatewayDevice:1 I might be wrong, but I think InternetGatewayDevice is for routers and such, so perhaps that is why vlc doesn't recognize the camera. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (20.0°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Okay, this camera is also known as 562M, and seems to be resold by several different companies - Radioshack (Egypt) for instance. I've made some progress - now I know the http port at least. Here is the weird thing - the HTTP replies are all missing the first byte, so the first line becomes "TTP/1.1 200 OK". This causes a problem for the browser. ALso with "image.jpeg" for instance. Does this ring a bell with anyone? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (19.9°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
