RE: [SLE] Good 32 MB AGP video card for Linux?
I have a Creative Labs Geforce pro and that works okay (haven't tried any games yet), you do need to upgrade to XFree 3.3.6 though. Hello Linux folks! Recently I bought Stealth III S540 Extreme 32 MB AGP video card. I got a lot of problems with it. The lesson: If you're not reach don't buy a cheap stuff. It doesn't work well in its native acceleration mode. When I'm trying to high light folders in kfm window I'm getting a huge blind square in upper left corner of the screen. The same issue when I'm using GIMP or other graphic intensive applications like games, Electronic Workbench, Eagle, circuit simulations e.t.a. Also this card doesn't work any good when I'm using vmware and run M$ Word in virtual NT. The same huge blind square. I turned this card acceleration mode off in etc/XF86Config. I'm not getting blind squares any more in kfm or vmware, however, everything works dramatically slower. Internet browsing became painful. Windows resizing and moving is much much slower. My previous graphic card Matrox Millennium G200 16 MB performed well for all applications but I installed it already on another Linux box. Could somebody advise me a good 32 MB or 64 MB AGP graphic card that will work well with all Linux graphic intensive applications. Does somebody know if new Matrox G400 32 MB AGP card will work with Linux?
