Troubles installing 7.2 on SMP box (MB: ASUS-CUV4X-D)
Dear all. I faced great troubles installing 7.2 on Dual-P-III box with ASUS-CUV4X-D mobo. (Via AppoloPro 133A) I can boot neither from floppy, nor CD -- it freeses while kernel boot - last messages are: ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs .. changing IO-APIC physical APIC ID to 2 ... ok synchronizing Arb IDs. .. TIMER: vector=49 pin1=2 pin2=0 however. i tried a boot floppy from RH 7.1 -- it loaded, but i do not want RH on my box -- i need SuSE there! Any ideas?

I had to supply: disableapic apm=off on the boot line of the install diskette. Not sure if it will help in your case. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Didn't older SuSE releases have specific boot floppies for SMP systems? Have you looked in the disks/ directory on the installation media for such an animal? ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Have you looked in the disks/ directory on the installation ->media for such an animal? Nope..different disks are unneeded it should work. I just built a 7.2 box for a co-work that had dual PII450's in it. Worked fine. It could be something in the BIOS. My co-worker had some weird USB stuff enabled in his..as soon as I turned it off..*bam*..it worked fine. I would bet 10-1 it's hardware related.
The problem was solved by using the 'disableapic' option at boot time. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S.
