[opensuse] CD drive reports "No medium present" after 13.1->13.2 upgrade
I have a Dell desktop with a CD/DVD drive that worked just fine in 13.1. After upgrade to 13.2 it is still visible to the system: udisksctl status MODEL REVISION SERIAL DEVICE -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Optiarc DVD+/-RW AD-7640S HD15 CN0G264C6886585Q09L8 sr0 But neither data nor music CDs get mounted, and the k3b reports no media in drive. I also tried cdinfo utility, and got cdinfo /dev/sr0 CD Info 1.1 | (c) 1996-98 Gerd Knorr & Heiko Eifeldt cdinfo: /dev/sr0: No medium found What could be going wrong here? Hi Myrosia, Did you upgrade using the 13.2 DVD? A search for "Dell and 'OptiarcAD-7640S'" yields hits as far back as 2009. IMHO, it's possible the drive has simply failed. Check to see if the system still boots from the DVD. If it does, that isn't the problem. If it doesn't, chances are very high the device has failed. hth & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks Carl, no, I upgraded via USB because other computers in my house no longer have CD drives. You are right, it looks like it was a coincidence, the drive simply failed. I made a live CD and tested it,and gets ignored on boot as well, so it got to be a hardware problem and not 13.2. Thanks for the idea - I would not have thought of it as a way to test.
