[opensuse] amazon.com not working in chrome
So amazon.com is not working in chrome while I am running opensuse Leap 42.1 an any of my 3 machines. If I go to that page in firefox, it works. If I boot into windows and open amazon.com in chrome in windows, it works. But in linux, when I open amazon.com, I get this error: ----------------------- HTTP Status 500 - Request processing failed; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid locale format: fil type Exception report message Request processing failed; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid locale format: fil description The server encountered an internal error that prevented it from fulfilling this request. exception org.springframework.web.util.NestedServletException: Request processing failed; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid locale format: fil org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.processRequest(FrameworkServlet.java:981) org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.doGet(FrameworkServlet.java:860) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:624) org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.service(FrameworkServlet.java:845) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:731) org.springframework.web.servlet.view.InternalResourceView.renderMergedOutputModel(InternalResourceView.java:168) org.springframework.web.servlet.view.AbstractView.render(AbstractView.java:303) ---------------------------------------- Then there is a ton of more errors. It just started doing this since the last update, a few days ago. I also noticed that when I run Windows as a guest OS in virtualbox, I get the same error and cannot load the home page of amazon.com in chrome windows as a guest OS. But if instead I boot directly into windows on my laptop, I can go to amazon.com in chrome. I don't see how the guest OS could be influenced :-?

Is that the exact same windows installation that you run virtualized and in real hardware? Or a different one? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

So your version is old. You should try to update that.
I am hesitant to update Java, as I run a program that needs to keep Java constant. I can try to update Java if all else fails, but I tend to think that because I have been running for the last few months with this same Java, and only now I started to get this problem, Java should not be the problem. At the same time, the error codes on the page seemed to say a lot about Java. So I am hoping to not have to try and update Java, and to fix this in another way.
I will now update my Chrome. Ok, now I have the latest, "Version 51.0.2704.79 (64-bit)". Still works.
So the problem should not have to do with chrome either.

Yes, kind of weird. But it makes me think that maybe something about the way the guest OS uses the host network configuration to access the internet, then maybe there is something wrong in my network configuration that only has a problem with chrome and amazon. Well, I also just found out that I cannot access another website, gmcard.com, but that goes for all the pc's in this house, windows or linux. I don't get a technical error message on that one, but just the message "Service unavailable". That website shows that it is up if you do the check if a website is up or down thing. So those are 2 network issues that are showing up consistently. But if the problem is my ISP, why would it only affect amazon.com on chrome in linux, on 3 different computers? And why would gmcard.com not work on any computer? Too much weirdness... -- George Box: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is possible that either Chrome or amazon needs some new feature in Java, or a bug that was corrected, that you do not have. Like you, I need to have Oracle's Java, or certain programs stop to work. But I had no problems updating java with them. Maybe you can try to update it, and if things fail, revert to the old version. The java version I am using is this:
Your local java installation cannot be the cause. Status 500 indicates a server error, i.e. Amazon's serving program in java has problems with the requests your browser makes.

I can access amazon.com fine using chrome 51.0.2704.63-1.x86-64. Perhaps you should clear some cookies? Have you set some weird locale in the settings? This is a server side error. It doesn't matter what Java version(s) you have locally. And I hope that you disabled the Java browser plugin years ago. It's a huge security hole (despite Oracle's efforts).
From the error, my guess is that your browser tells the server that your preferred language is "fil". Language codes are 2 letter (de, us, uk, fr, ...). 3 letter language codes as defined by the ISO standard aren't supported by Java or the web.
Check your locale settings and preferences like the value of the env variable LANG and your browser's language preferences. Regards, -- Aaron "Optimizer" Digulla a.k.a. Now that you mention it, I didn't notice. When the browser tries to start java in my machine I get a dialogue whether I want to allow it or not. And on the amazon page I don't get that dialogue. Why does it want to start java for George? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

You're mistaken. "HTTP Status 500" means that a Java program (server) is running in Amazon.com. That's how they build the pages which you can see. This program can't handle the language which George's browser is telling Amazon.com to use. No local Java, JavaScript or Java plugin is involved. Regards, -- Aaron "Optimizer" Digulla a.k.a. AHHH!

One of those kind of wierd things, I guess. I had to go out of town, and when I hit amazon.com and gmcard.com from my other location while out of town, they both worked fine. Then our internet was out for a few days there, and I just got back home. I connected again from my home network, and now I can see those pages both just fine. No errors. Don't know if re-connecting from outside my home network reset some error on my own pc, or if while I was gone there was some correction made by my isp that allowed me to connect. -- George Box: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
