Perhaps he means you can only run it 17 times. The 18th time you try to run it, it fails. Or, as you say, because its an ambiguous phrasing, perhaps that's not what he meant. Regards, ismail If top shows 17 "skype" processes, most likely someone pressed "H", and top is showing threads.

Probably because you started it 17 times :-)

specially if you set openSUSE to restore the previous session. if you shut down with a bunch of skype instances open, they'll probably all start again the next time you start openSUSE. because of this, i usually start openSUSE with a blank session, not opening whatever was open the last time. if you forget to close something before shutting down, this will come up the next time.
