Partition most benefited by Raptor performance
If this is too elementary for linux-e, please reply direct rather than extend the thread. Which SUSE desktop hd partition(s) benefit most from Raptor performance? With large RAM (1 or 2 GB), is 'swap' usually quiet while Linux runs most common apps? Lonn C. Dugan

Raptor is a game?? (I googled for Raptor+linux).

If you're talking a desktop, the most common apps would only be active when in focus, so even a system with only 512M RAM or less is likely to be very quiet. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution.

I think he might have meant Raptor drives. :) For example: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=65&Language=en As far as what would benefit *most*, well, that's one of those questions that can get incredibly complicated and be filled with lots of personal opinion. Effectively what you're asking is what partition gives you the most bang-for-the-buck when it's fast. It sounds like you're thinking about dividing up your install into many different partitions...that's fine I guess if drive space is a serious commodity, but personally unless I'm running a server I'll just keep it simple. Depends totally on what you're running. If it's just a desktop why not put the whole thing on it? If it's a server, you'll want to have your server data on it, of course. The choice of filesystem will be important too, especially if running a server. IMHO Reiser for mid to small files, XFS if you're serving up a lot of big files.
