Re: [SLE] Adobe Reader 7.0 tarball
OK that problem is taken care of - Now how can I use Reader 7.0 by default instead of 5.0?

I see the "INSTALL" script in the "AdobeReader" directory (which I am in) but how do I run the "INSTALL" script. I am only familiar with the ./configure way. But this doens't apply for this file.
As root, just do './INSTALL' from the command line. Before running the script you may check that the script has the executable flag set; if not, issue 'chmod +x INSTALL'.
All this supposes you are in the directory where the script is located. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia http://www.noemasol.com

If you are using Acrobat Reader installed from the SuSE rpm package, the binary acroread is in /usr/X11R6/bin. I just moved acroread to acroread.old and created a symbolic link in /usr/X11R6/bin: 'ln -s /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/bin/acroread'. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. You will need to alter the links in mozilla and other browsers to correctly link to your new location. I think it is the plugin nspdf.so SuSE put then in /usr/lib/browser-plugins (as I remember). Otherwise, It is easy to install and get working. 73 de Donn Washburn aka N5XWB

If installing from the Adobe tar ball, just run the install_browser_plugin script which is per default in /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/Browser. For Firefox and Mozilla, this works well. I haven't tried with Konqueror, though. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia http://www.noemasol.com
I installed the Adobe Reader 7.0 successfully the other day, but I was not
able to get the plugin working.
I replaced the nppdf.so symbolic link from Acroread 5 to Acroread 7, but
when I download a PDF now, it comes in blank, so I rolled back to 5.0 for
the Firefox plugin.

I don't know where the SuSE-provided Acrobat Reader 7.0 rpm package will install its files and scripts, but it was easy to make it work installing from the Adobe-provided tar ball, as the OP is trying to do. If you install from the tar ball, you will find the install_browser_plugin script under /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/Browser. Just run the script and point it to the directory (directories) where your browsers are installed. The plugin is working nicely under Firefox and Mozilla. What I did was to uninstall the old version via Yast, then in the Control Center/KDE Components/File Associations/application/illustrator AND pdf, remove the old links and put in the new. Hope it helps. Harry G
