Hi Ken, Sorry to dissapoint you but my problems with Suse 9.1 and Samba/Network browsing are without a Domain. It is inconceivable that Suse shipped this product in this state. It feels and looks a lot like M$ at this point. "Will ship now and fix it later as long as we get revenue in !". Luis-M. Ken Schneider wrote:

I'm able to browse my local workgroup with the Network Browsing icon.
I may just be lucky though :)

Hi Marshall,
Hi Louis
Browsing is not problem, the problem is connecting and login into a machine listed in Konqueror.
I can not only look at the shares, I can retrieve info from the remote machine as well, browser folders, etc. Another words, I can do this as easily as I can in Windows. The remote machine that I am accessing is a WinXP Pro box on a workgroup. Marshall
Hi Marshall, Does your Windows XP requires a user name and password to connect ? I have tried it on an another Samba server where a user name and password is required and it crashes. The same happens when connecting either to a WIndows PC or Windows server configured as a standalone. regards, Luis-M. Marshall Heartley wrote:

Hi Marshall,
Hello again.
Does your Windows XP requires a user name and >password to connect ?
It didn't but I changed it to see if I can replicate the issue.

Well after getting my WinXP box to want logins, I get the same issue that everyone else gets. The smb client suddenly dies. Darn, I thought that I was going to have the oddball system in which everything just works! Marshall

Luis-M.

Hi Marshall, Sorry to hear that it does it to you too. I posted a support call with Suse regarding this matter. Will see how efficient support is. I'll take it one problem at the time from now on. Rgds, Luis-M. Marshall Heartley wrote:

Well, look on the bright side -- If you want to use Windows shares with SuSE, you simply have to disregard all security on your Win box ;) The l33t HaX0rz will get into the Windows machines anyway, might as well make an open invite :) -----Original Message----- From: Marshall Heartley [mailto:marshall.heartley@earthlink.net] Sent: Tuesday, May 25, 2004 10:03 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Network Browsing

It can't be TOO awfully inconceivable. You figured it out. `*8? -- Brad Shelton On Line Exchange http://www.ole.net Phone: 313-526-1111 Fax: 313-526-3333
Luis-M, just to let you know you are not the only one having this problem. I also am in a workgroup environment, and Network Browsing doesn't work. I have two 9.1 machines; one an upgrade from 9.0 and one a clean install. They both act exactly the same. smb:/ bombs.... - no browsing. smb://windows-sharename works fine. Hi, all. I'm late to this thread, but I just wanted to add that I've been struggling with the whole Samba thing here, too. I have a mixed workgroup of Win98SE, WinXP, SuSE 9.0 desktop, SuSE 9.1 laptop. So far, I can transfer files both ways from XP and Win98 to the desktop and the laptop. I can transfer files from the 9.1 laptop to the 9.0 desktop. I can't transfer files (although I can see the shares) from the 9.0 desktop to the 9.1 laptop because I get an "access denied" error. Of course all users/passwords have been properly entered and all YOU updates have been done. I've finally given up because I can work around things by transferring data from the 9.0 desktop to one of the Windows boxen and from there to the laptop if I have to, but of course it's a pain. Particularly because I can't see why it doesn't work in 9.1 when it has worked all this time with 9.0. And of course it worked fine on the laptop when I had 9.0 on it. >sigh< If anyone gets the solution, please post it to the list. Malke -- "And that's how we learned our lesson!" - Bender
