I've just updated my Mozilla for 8.0 from ftp.suse.com/projects/mozilla to RC2. The sidebar is completely empty, and I can't get rid of it. The little toolbar with the buttons for the email client, etc is missing too. What's gone wrong here? -- 1:13pm up 11 days, 3:25, 1 user, load average: 0.19, 0.09, 0.03

Ahem, I was a bit quick to post there. I needed to run SuSEconfig to restore sanity. Hey - anti-aliased fonts! My God, that's the worst anti-aliasing I've ever seen. Looks like someone sneezed on my screen... -- 1:18pm up 11 days, 3:30, 1 user, load average: 0.25, 0.09, 0.03

Make sure to do this for TTF support .. and make sure you have the Gnome Anti-aliasing pkg installed..after all Mozilla is a GTK app..not a KDE/QT app. :) -- If you have Windows Fonts installed on your computer then I have something you can tinker with if you are using the Mozilla that is posted on ibiblio.org. Open up the unix.js file with a text editor in : /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref Edit the following lines: Line 232 change to : pref("font.FreeType2.autohinted", false) Line 233 change to: pref("font.FreeType2.unhinted", true); Line 241 remove the double slashes from: pref("font.directory.truetype.2", "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/drakfont/ttf"); Start your Mozilla and Click on Edit, Preferences, Appearance and Fonts. You should now have your TTF Windows fonts available to use. This is a screenshot of my Mozilla. It's not perfect but it looks a bit better. This is not true AA but using a modified freetype2 library that has the byte interpeter code enabled. -- -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little. -GC --=====-----=====--
Are you sure you upgraded to RC2? It's not been released yet...

Erm, Help->About Mozilla takes me to an "about:" page which claims "Mozilla 1.0 Release Candidate 2". Perhaps the SuSE guys have got the build working and on their server just before the official announcement? -- 2:11pm up 11 days, 4:23, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
Nah, what's you've got is a pre-RC2 build, in which the User-Agent string has been updated, basically it's the equivalent of a nightly. Ref: http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&th=384171f768e1d63c&seekm=abd2a8%24cu1%40ripley.netscape.com&frame=off

Suits me! I don't much care as long as it works about right. I'm not a great Mozilla user anyway. Your Galeon build on usr-local-bin.org works nicely with it though (which is more than I can say for your "feedback" link on that site!) -- 2:40pm up 11 days, 4:52, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
Feedback link seems fine to me - what seems to be wrong with it?

Well, I'm running a nightly from 05/08/02 and when I go to the about screen ..it states that it's 1.0.0+ and says nothing about rc2. I wonder what the hell that means. Are the bouncing around with this or is 1.0.0+ really rc2. The things that make you go..hmmmm. ;) -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little. -GC --=====-----=====--
