Please, can someone help me add a text string to a picture through Gimp or ... any other suitable tool ? I produce plenty of 3-D simulations output images. Then I display each one full-screen and take a screenshot ("png" file). I need to record for each image the simulation parameters it represents. I encode such parameters values in the image filename. But when we display many images on the screen it's hard to remember the single filename so the generating parameters. Sometimes the difference is very subtle. It would be nice to write such string on a corner of the "pdf" of "png" image. Thank you in advance. MEM

A number of the graphics programs allow you to add text to a png image. Kolourpaint probably is the easiest to use. Also have a look at this article on Imagemagick for doing it from the command line. http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-graf/?ca=dnt-428 -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
Try image magick (in your SuSE dvd). E.g.: $ mogrify image.jpg -text 'text 100,100 "%f"' will draw "image.jpg" (the file name) on image coords 100,100. You could decode the file name as you prefer on a perl script and have IM place the decoded annotation somewhere in the image. HTH On Sunday 16 January 2005 08:30, Maura Edelweiss Monville wrote:

Open the picture in Gimp and use the text tool (big T in the Gimp panel). You can choose font and font size. The color will be the chosen foreground color. The text appears as a floating image that you can drag to the position you want it to have. Use the rulers for precision. If any of this is unclear to you Google for "grokking the gimp".
