[opensuse] KNetworkManager and connecting to wireless network
I have troubles connecting to my own router over wifi, every successful connection requires several retries, sometimes for 15 minutes, which is annoying. This problem does not occur on Windows (installed on the same machine, in the same environment) and it also comes and goes on SUSE with no apparent reason. I have tried turning essid broadcast on and off, changing the key, channel and everything else I could think of, but the problem seems to be caused by openSUSE. Hi, I guess you are suffering from the same bug as I do: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=398135 I don't know if there is something going on with it, my openSuse 10.3 is up to date and still it sometimes works somehow or it doesn't work at all... I realized that there are two different ways Knetworkmanager acts: - sometimes, after not connecting, it opens a large window asking me for the WPA password, after clicking ok it fails again and the error message appears in the upper left of the sreen. Then the next try to connect works. - sometimes only the error message appears, but on the lower right of the screen (te window with the password question doesn't appear). Then I can try and try several times and finally my router doesn't appear in the list of available wireless anymore. Then I have to reboot (and feel like having a windows box...). Found 2 bugs based on driver: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=386532 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=357248 Whole bunch on KNetworkManager, for instance: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=416508 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=397332 The one that Daniel mentioned, seems to fit the best to your description: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=398135 the rest is added as it can help you to see what debugging information developers need, what tools you can use. I would just add comment to bug 398135, and attach what Daniel did. I'm still on 10.3 with laptop and have no time to install 11.0 to play with. More people with problem means more attention by developers. Sorry, for just listing bugs. Try compat-wireless driver, download it here http://wireless.kernel.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-old....
