Folks, I have the following setup HP ze4220 laptop w/builtin wired ethernet card which works. SuSE 8.0 co-installed w/ M$ XP Linksys WPC11 v3 wireless network card Card seems to work under M$. 1) <cardinfo> quickly detects insertion and removal of cards within 1 sec and mirrors the contents of /var/lib/pcmcia/stab stanlap:/var/lib/pcmcia # cat stab (Linksys WPC11)[wireless card I want to get working] Socket 0: empty /var/lib/pcmcia # cat stab Socket 0: 3Com 3CXFEM656C w/Winmodem /var/lib/pcmcia # cat stab (US Robotics PC modem) Socket 0: Serial or Modem 0 serial serial_cs 0 ttyS1 4 65 /var/lib/pcmcia # cat stab (Linksys 100/10 ethernet card) Socket 0: Generic AX88190 or pcnet Fast Ethernet 2) <cardmgr> does not recognize anything stanlap~ # cardmgr modpath = (null) modsubdir = (null) stanlap:~ # cardmgr modpath = (null) modsubdir = (null) 3) There are three references each to pcnet_cs.o serial_cs.o orinoco_cs.o in /lib/modules/2.4.18-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/net/wireless or pcmcia /lib/modules/2.4.18-64GB-SMP/pcmcia reference to above /lib/modules/2.4.18-64GB-SMP/pcmcia-external and they are different. In order to get them to bind to the kernel, I had to rename the kernel modules so they are not recognized. 4) a) In /etc/pcmcia/config card "Linksys Instant Wireless" version "Linksys", "WPC11" bind "pcnet_cs", "serial_cs" # bind "orinoco_cs" "serial_cs" b) In /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf card "Linksys WPC11 11Mbps 802.11b WLAN Card" version "Instant Wireless ", " Network PC CARD", "Version 03" # bind "prism2_cs" bind "orinoco_cs" 5) <yast2> doesn't recognize/detect the Linksys WPC11 card or any other card. I don't know if you've found this website or not, but the source for the orinoco driver is there.
Found orinoco.o at http://www.suse.de/FAQ upgrades etc.
I don't understand the orinoco thing either. My card is Prism based plain and clear, but I need to use the orinoco driver.
