Hey, I just did a fresh install on a box of SUSE 9.3 Professional, and when I did the update it was going fine but it freezes up on the font from Microsoft, and I'm wondering what my options are to get them installed. Any suggestions? -Allen

Did it really freeze? It takes quite a long time and if you have an instable connection, it might hang there trying to re-connect. In SuSE 9.3 you would have to recompile freetype2 with bytecode in order to use those fonts properly. Sven
Hello! My problem is that my FSC notebook has problems with Suse from version 10.0. I bought 10.0 and tried to install, but the installation freeze every time if the "Loading Kernel" reached 100% with a black screen or in text mode with a blinking cursor. Suse 9.x made no problems. The Novell Support had no fix and told me later that some FSC machines and other notebooks can´t work with a new "call -?" ;-). The distribution then returned to seller and now I tried the 10.1 RC3 boot.iso for a internet installation and there is the same problem. Do someone know a workaround or fix therefore. I find nothing in bugzilla or sdb. Thanks Thomas

Hello Pete! Why hijacking??? I deleted a posting and wrote my questions, because I thought this could show me where i had to send my email. I recognized that there was a private email and I tried to send it to suse-linux-e@suse.com. This was my first post, so sorry if I made something wrong. I´m new here. P.S.: I spend much time at Google ... - I did not find it. Therefore please try to help me (links, other search strings ...). i've had slightly similar problems (maybe it is due to drivers for old hardware no longer being included in newer releases) but i have found that if i keep my old installation and just upgrade, i don't run into those problems. so try keeping your 9.x installation and just upgrade from YaST. hope this helps. Don't know, if this helps, but my first Suse 10.0 install freezed because Suse 10.0 doesn't like my onboard network card, while Suse 9.0 had no problems with it. Had to desable it in the BIOS, now it works perfectly. People from the mailing list did a great job in helping me, after asking me a lot of questions - and telling me how to find the answers ;-) So maybe reading the thread could lead you to some ideas: http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse/2005-Dec/0248.html regards Daniel -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Switzerland professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com special interest site: http://www.bauer-nudes.com

Actually it sometimes freezes and sometimes works. Here is how I work around it. I updated system via Yast without installing M$ Fonts. Next step, I installed Iptraf and run it. So I can monitor all network connections in real time. I simply picked up the all interfaces option. So I can monitor all. Last step is installing fonts. I run Yast and checked the M$ fonts. It downloads a shell script to install fonts. You will see the progess is %99. Actually it is not, script is running and installing fonts. It takes time I waited for the script to finish. All fonts are installed. If you are not sure about the process, simply use up and down arrows on Iptraf, so you can see the transfer. p.s: Iptraf runs on console. Become root and type iptraf. Thanks for the replys. I'll give it another shot. and I'm pretty good with iptraf so I'll load that up and have it monitor the connection while it does it's magic. I wasn't aware of where it downloaded the script from so I'll do that. Thanks all, -Allen
