I have already posted two messages about this issue with no sollution. However, I will try again, since this bug has become very annoying for me. Due to the same issue I have reinstalled the entire system, but the problem produces again: almost all icons on my desktop are gone, when I start an application I can see the window and buttons frames, but not the icons, which in most cases renders the application almost unusable. Someone already pointed out that this should be related to something on my home folder, but I am unable to find what is wrong. It is odd that after the fresh installation my desktop was ok, and only after some time the icons disappeared. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

usually it's enough to move the .kde folder to have it re-created (but you lose your config) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I have already tried this. I loose my configurations, but I don't get
back the usual look of my desktop.

Hi Bogdan, I do not recall the previous discussions. When you create a new user for testing purposes and then log in with that user id and password, do you get a usuable desktop, then? If not I would install an alternative windowmanager, e.x. xfce or icewm or fluxbox... and see, what happens when you use them. If anything else fails I would suspect a hardware issue, most probably related to your graphics card. regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Hi
After creating a new account the problem repeated after some time,
but at the beginning the desktop was usable.
It could be related to a hardware failure, I agree with that
Bogdan

Hi please stop top posting. It makes it very hard to follow the discussions. Linux users answer BELOW the original message and they cut out anything that is not needed to understand the context of the answer. ;-) In regard to your problem: If the desktop starts cleanly and after some time, it gets somehow unusable, my wild guess is a problem with temperature inside your computer case or/and on your graphics card. If I were you I would remove the side panel from my case, start with a cold computer and then see, respectively feel "what's hot". regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

and just look to see if the fan rotates... try by hand, it may be hard, like a spring, this is normal (magnetic hold), but if it's rather hard and dirt, probably an oil problem. Change the fan... jdd -- http://www.dodin.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's not "list cops", it's helping someone learn the correct and more common sense way of doing things on this list. People that call it "list cops" or anything else are those who usually seem to think bucking a/the system anywhere is being some kind of 'hero to the people' or other such nonsense. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
This is to demonstrate, that I know how to top post ;-)) The issue with top posts is this: I am reading this list as a newsgroup and use a threaded view of the messages that arrive to overview any given issue. Now, when someone uses top-posting, it is very hard for me, to properly follow the discussion thread and possibly offer some help to solve the problem. Honestly, most often I simply do not reply to top posts, because I find to troublesome to collect what has been said before and how said what... However when someone new to the list does not know about the disadvantages of top-posting, I offer my advice and kindly ask not to do it. Furthermore I think it is good for a newbie to know how to properly use Linux. For me, avoiding top posting is a sure way to get more answers from the list. If you call that cop behavior, I am happy to be a cop and there are other cops around, too: http://catb.org/jargon/html/T/top-post.html I am also happy that I had something to add to the discussion of the actual problem. ;-)))) regards Eberhard Stevens wrote:

David, this is wise advice, indeed. I accept and happily follow your advice. Consequently I already sent a comprehensive answer to a related question that I got from the op via pm. Should that turn out to be successful, I will ask for his permission and then copy to the list. kind regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Did you try selecting a new KDE theme? Or new KDE icons, just to try and reset things? Are you, in fact, using KDE? I use openSuSE 10.2 and kde. The only notable change is that I use
2.6.22.5-8 kernel instead of the default one.
