Is there anything on Suse that I can use for the ident server? How do I set it up? I am totally new to this concept, so go easy on me. If not anything on Suse, any suggestions?

Well, there's the ident daemon ;) Install the pidentd package, run insserv identd to have it start at boot time and then rcidentd start to start it immediately. Keep in mind that this isn't the best thing to be running since it tells the world what the valid usernames are on your machine. -- -ckm

That is why one should be running a secure identd daemon which gives out false info while allowing programs that requires it to function normally. I have been using the one included in mmtcpfwd (http://mmondor.gobot.ca/software.html) with good results. Charles -- LILO, you've got me on my knees! Absolutely. I didn't want to overwhelm the guy though :) -- -ckm
Well I'm glad you didn't try to overwlem me, but even pident seems to have. I did ./configre make and make install with no errors but it is no where to be found on my system. Guess maybe I'll try mmtcpfwd as see what happens. Thanks for the help guys.

No, this is why you use a distribution. The package is on your cds (run 'yast2 -i pident' as root) or, if you don't have cds, download it from from ftp.suse.com: ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/suse/n4/pidentd-3.1a19-157.i386.rpm -- -ckm

I thought of that on my way to work this morning. Just installed it and it works perfectly. Thank you.

Most likely it got installed in /usr/local, try typing in: whereis pidentd in a console and see what it saids. You should really follow Christopher's instructions and install the SuSE precompiled package instead. It will be much easier for you to setup. Charles
whereis was the first thing I tried. :) Got it fixed and working though, thanks for the help
