I believe they shut down that update mechanism some time ago, and you have to update to a newer engine. One of my Ubuntu machines gets updates regularly, but my slightly older Opensuse does not get updates and can't use the Ubuntu ones due to different engine version. - -- _____________________________________ - ---This space for rent--- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (MingW32) iEYEARECAAYFAlQV6ugACgkQv7M3G5+2DLLnWQCgosst021ZJjLOVCruxDOLEWiY gHgAoIck2DhCG5W0m3pYfoY7VTCADUtK =MN62 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Actually, I take that back, I'm using Clamscan on Ubuntu, and Clamscan plus Antivir on older opensuse, and the antivir does not get updates and hasn't for some time. It the same version you have. I think they no longer offer updates and there is no way to get them any more. - -- _____________________________________ - ---This space for rent--- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (MingW32) iEYEARECAAYFAlQV8UcACgkQv7M3G5+2DLJIegCfYl2lvSZPaxf3V9rHLJBIThu+ EPYAniwqGHJULrktlq+aEfc0Q5brPTlt =UNzD -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I see this in the Wikipedia: +++···················· Consumers products for other platforms Avira offers Avira Free Android Security for Android v2.2 and later, as well as Avira Free Mac Security for Mac OS X. Avira used to offer "Avira Free Unix/Linux" for Unix or Linux Platform, but has discontinued the product as of 30 June 2013. New licenses are no longer available, but existing customers will receive updates until 30 June 2016.[13] ····················++- That's a shame. Another company that stops producing for Linux. That [13] points here: http://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1491 +++···················· With its powerful Antivirus solutions, Avira is especially able to meet the needs of the consumer and micro/small business markets. Today, these fields almost exclusively rely upon Windows or Mac operating systems. By comparison, Linux installations have been declining steadily for years. As a result, by June 30, 2016, we will discontinue our Linux product sector and concentrate increasingly on developing Avira’s Windows and Mac OS system product portfolio only. Specifically, Avira AntiVir Professional Linux, Avira Server Security Linux and Avira Free Antivirus Linux will be discontinued and Avira Endpoint Security and Avira Business Security Suite will be offered without Linux support. Even though the active sales and further development of Linux products will end on June 30, 2013, Avira will continue delivering detection updates (engine and VDF updates) for these solutions. However, please note that from July 2013 on, new licenses and license renewals for all Linux products will no longer be available. In individual cases, a licensing exception to existing Linux systems may be considered for users until the end-of-life date. Please contact your Avira partner manager for more information. ····················++- Disgusting. :-/ - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I suppose that you _could_, if you squint hard enough, if you rely on statistics coming from a firm paid to do its "polling" by Microsoft, come to that conclusion. The less biased news sources indicate that business is moving towards "portable computing" and desktops are slowing if not stagnant. The area Linux is dominating in is, and has been for a while, that of servers. Even the Big Iron forms like IBM and HP, and that other giant Oracle, are all using Linux or some variant for their servers now. Many places might still have Windows on the desktop, but the large banks and telcos I've dealt with this last decade have found that scaling/licensing Windows Server can't compete with one powerful HP or IBM multiprocessor running SAMBA+LDAP under some UNIX variant as the hub for managing accounts, dealing with 'roving shares' etc. More to the point, such arrangements also allow the same accounts to be accessed from Linux devices with NFS mounts of /home/<user>. I'm told, though have not seen, that there is some kind of similar capability for access of the same using Android tablets and phones, at least to make use of things like calendering, reading documents and the web-enabled applications. That seems believable. If the Avira article said that they were giving up on Linux in favour of Android and iOS, then I might believe there is a good business case. Giving up on Linux Server, not least of all since so many Linux servers are really the hub for Windows desktops, seems misguided. -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Indeed. But there are several companies taking that stance. Another one is adobe with acrobat, and that one hurts. Not long ago I had to install a "trial windows" system in a Linux machine in order to run on it seagate seatools, because the non windows version is incapable of printing or saving to file, unless you still have a floppy. I'm forced to maintain one working Windows system, at home, simply to keep updated several gadgets: phones/smartphones, ebooks (drm), car navigators... even if all of them run Linux, or a Linux variant, inside. Disgusting. :-/ - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
