[opensuse] HP 9250f networking help needed
I've just installed SuSE 10.3 64 bit on a new HP 9250f There is some trouble with the networking. The built in wireless is not found and the haupage TV Card is not found. The Realtek 8111 tries to load the 8169 driver but doesn't get past that. I tried a USB linksys wireless-b which works on several of my others as a back door to get updates and it doesn't seem to work either. This is my first time with the 64 bit version and this machine. so I'm not sure if it might be an issue with different drivers on the 64 bit than 32, older drivers on the disk (downloaded this week), or hardware trouble. I found some old mention of a trouble with 8111 card and Vista turning it off, but Vista no longer boots on the machine. I still have a connected machine so I can copy files via usb. I also have a d-link pci card I can add if there is no hope for the realtek 8111 -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Linux Journal this month has a section on getting the TV Card going
The Realtek 8111 tries to load the 8169 driver but doesn't get past that.

Tried another USB ethernet adapter and I was able to run all the updates
I found some old mention of a trouble with 8111 card and Vista turning it off, but Vista no longer boots on the machine. Grub was pointing to the wrong partition to reboot Vista, that has now been fixed.
I tried the wake on lan setting in vista without luck I tried pulling the power while there was a network connection in vista again no luck I tried using static IP rather than dhcp it looks like there is a connection but but nothing is getting through. I cannot even get the the router with the IP address. On the Nic I only see the green light on, ifconfig show all packets dropped Any ideas on waking up the network card? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had just finished putting it back in the box after requesting the RMA number, when your reply arrived. I couldn't let it go away with out one last try. I downloaded the tarball from realtek, 8168 as opposed to the 8169 that is on the disk, followed the instructions in the readme and now I have network. Any guess as to how long it will be before the working driver gets into the distributions? -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, I am not directly involved with the project. If you really want to know then you might try asking on opensuse-factory@opensuse.org. Those guys handle the betas and development.
