Has anyone gotten a Futura 19" monitor to work correctly in SUSE?
Or have you defaulted to VESA mode?
Usually it is no problem to install a monitor. Basically you only need the horizontal and vertical frequencies. You should find the values in the user's guide of the monitor. Fabian

Yes. I've got the K9057, here (19" short-neck model). Which model do you have?
Or have you defaulted to VESA mode?
Sax2 wouldn't recognize the .inf file for the monitor, so I had to edit XF86Config by hand. Below are the relevant sections, which should work for the K9054 and K9057, as they have the same specs according to the manual: Section "Monitor" Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry" DisplaySize 350 260 HorizSync 30-95 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "K9057" VendorName "Likom" VertRefresh 50-160 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection .... The monitor is a K9034LD product # LP995
I cant find my book with the notes on the site for looking up the specs.
I got Sax to accept it as 800x600 with 16k colors but not 1024x768 over
256 colors.

19" flat-tube?
I cant find my book with the notes on the site for looking up the specs.
The website is http://www.likomusa.com. They don't have their manuals available, nor do they have the specs for your model online. They do have what seems to be a quite similar model's specs, though. http://www.likomusa.com/LD916.htm.
I got Sax to accept it as 800x600 with 16k colors but not 1024x768 over 256 colors.
Judging by the Windows .inf file, it seems to have the same specs as mine. Just to be on the safe side, I'd try their tech support contact (the link is on the "Contact Us" page) and see if they can email the specs or a manual to you. -- Scott Jones (scott at exti dot net)

Just got this email:
From: margitsw@t-online.de (Margit Schubert-While) To: scott@exti.net
Hi Scott, I'm not on SLE list so maybe you can pass this info foreward.
K9034 Band Width 135 Mhz Horizontal 30-95 Vertical 50-160
1600x1200 @ 75 1280x1024 @ 88 1024x768 @ 115
Use "xmode" to generate the appropriate mode lines.
So, it looks like it uses exactly the same settings as I originally gave you. Hope this helps. -- Scott Jones (scott at exti dot net)
No saddly not a flat tube it was only about 250.
I do however have a DX500T Mag 15" which I used when my old 14" MGC was
acting up and this Futura was in the shop. I bought the Mag second hand
from a LUG member.
What I find interesting is how small the database is for supported
monitors requiring so much hand work.
We should be able to send these things in to SUSE for them to add to the
system after all what else is the point of having 10 million users /
programmers / hackers in the linux community except to provide continual
improvement of Linux.
Q: Is there a site which collects such monitor information in the same
way as the ALSA sound project
Q2: If not it would make an excellent project if I could find a proper
host.
Vender neutral would be the best way as monitor / distro combinations are
likely virtually unlimited.

Actually, I meant a flat CRT screen, not an LCD.
What I find interesting is how small the database is for supported monitors requiring so much hand work.
The SaX2 monitor database, which can be found in /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/api/data/cdb/Monitors, is fairly extensive, though obviously not exhaustive. IME, Futura/Likom isn't that popular a consumer brand. I've been told by their regional sales manager that they mainly concentrate on the VAR/system builder market. They do make good monitors for their price range, though.

Not that I am aware of, but I haven't really looked, either. -- Scott Jones (scott at exti dot net)
