I'm trying to get an MP3 player, but I want to get something that will work with Linux....meaning something that I don't need to use software with. Can anyone make any recommendations? I'd like to keep it under $250. Thanks, Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

Creative Labs MuVO works just fine and is about $/€150. Quality is good and it plays mp3, wav and wma files and can be used as a pen drive. I've had one with no problems on SuSE 8/9 (for several months - so anything I say is probably hopelessly out of date ;-) ) -- JDL

I have a Creative MuVO 64MB. It works fine with SuSE 7.3 and 9.0, but will not mount with SuSE 9.1. I couldn't get to the bottom of that (following the various hotplug/USB suggestions elsewhere on this list did not help), so I have had to downgrade back to 9.0. A great shame as 9.0 seems very sluggish in comparison. Steve Dundee, UK

Try creating a directory # mkdir /media/muvo then put the line /dev/sda1 /media/muvo subfs fs=floppyfss, user, procuid, nodev, nosuid, sync 0 0 in /etc/fstab Then it should mount automatically under /media/muvo and if it doesn't, you should can mount it with $ mount /media/muvo -- JDL

Tried that, but when I try to mount, it just hangs. Thanks for the suggestion, anyway. Steve Dundee, UK

I had the same problem with my Muvo. I could get it working on my XP box just fine, but not Linux....so I dumped it. One thing I noticed....and I don't know why....is that if I take my SD card reader (or some other USB device) out of the USB port and try to plug something else in, it won't be detected. I have to log out of KDE and back in again for it to be detected. That's another question I have to post. Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

My Muvo works fine with Suse 7.3 and 9.0. I just tried it with Mandrake 10, ad it didn't work there. So I conclude that it is the 2.6 kernel that is not managing my USB hardware properly (it is not just my Muvo that I am having a problem with). So I've set up with a dual-boot to let me get to 9.0 if I want to use my Muvo. What a hassle! Looking forward to someone fixing the kernel... Steve Dundee, UK Same here. Worked find on 8.0 to 9.0. 9.1 has something strange in it. -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com
