[SLE] Compiling didn't go too well...
Hi there, I just finished downloading a program called KBlade - it's a front end under KDE for BladeEnc, a MP3 encoder. The basic installation goes as follows: 1. `cd' to the directory containing the package's source code and type `./configure' to configure the package for your system. If you're using `csh' on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure' instead to prevent `csh' from trying to execute `configure' itself. Running `configure' takes a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for. 2. Type `make' to compile the package. 3. Type `make install' to install the programs and any data files and documentation. 4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean'. So far so good. ./configure gives me the following messages: loading cache ./config.cache checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... yes checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) is a cross-compiler... no checking whether we are using GNU C... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... g++ -E checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths! What exactly does that mean and how do I fix this? Thanks. - Yatsen Ng Den Haag, The Netherlands yatsenng@casema.net It said "Needs Windows 95 or better". It's our all-time favourite :-) Install the xdevel package, as it contains header files you need to compile X applications. Hi Yatsen, First, make sure you've installed the xdev (I believe that's the name, it's X development) package. If it's there, you'll probably have open up the configure script in an editor and edit the line that says where the includes live. Actually the package name is xdevel Use package imformation in yast to look for the package, then install it and rerun the script and see what happens.. Do I need to install every single package? There's a total of 38 packages in xdev! Just making sure... -- Yatsen Ng Den Haag, The Netherlands yatsenng@casema.net It said "Needs Windows 95 or better". No, you don't. You just need the package xdevel, which should be in series xdev ;-) You were worried for a moment there, weren't you...
