Digital Camera (Second try)
Hello List I have a (digital camera) Ricoh Caplio RR 30 and when I plug it in a USB, NO icon on the desktop. I drives me crazy . I don't know how to get it working. Gphoto etc doesn't work because this camera is not supported. I'm using SuSE 8.1. When using "'usbview"' I get """USB.UHCI Root Hub"""......Digital Still camera. Is there something what I haven't done? or forgot. Can anybody help me out here? Thanks very much. Bill -- Registered Linux user #298909 http://counter.li.org

1) Go to /var/log/ 2) Enter: tail -f messages 3) Plug the camera into the USB cable 4) Let us know what messages appear. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. My camera has a 3 position switch, photo, video and play back. The USB only works when it is set to the playback position. after setting the position correctly and turning the USB back on in the BIOS. rchotplug start mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera did the trick for me .
Thanks. I did what you suggested and rchotplug start worked. The rest didn't work. The output of the second command is """mount point /mnt/camera doesn't exist"". Bill. On Saturday 01 February 2003 12:49, Mike wrote:

You need to create the mount point before you try to mount something there. mkdir /mnt/camera of course you could call it whatever you want. mkdir /mnt/mydirectory and just remember to change the mount command. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions

I do not know if this will work with yours (works with mine, but I have a Fuji Finepix), but is very easy and will take less than a minute to try this: Connect the camera to the usb port, turn it on... I think there is a blip sound when it connects... Then from System --> filesystem tools choose kdiskfree... if everything is OK (and your camera is somehow like mine), you should see a new device, /dev/sda1; right click to mount it and the right click (or was it click) to open it, and you will see a folder with all your pics inside)... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? There is no new device like sda1. What shows is /cdrecorder, /cdrom,/fd0,/hda1 and hda3 and also shmfs (what ever that is . 250MB and under mount it says /dev /shm. Any more ideas/ Bill

I'll take a wild guess and give you the standard answer for hooking up usb cameras. It usually works, but not all cameras work this way. Most do. 1. Make sure your usb is running, "rchotplug start" (or restart) 2. Plug in your camera to the usb cable, and turn it on. You should here a beep when the usb system finds the camera. 3. "mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera" ( or wherever you want to mount) (you might try a different sda? if you have some other scsi drives) 4. Look thru /mnt/camera and copy off the photos. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
Thanks for your help. I tried this but I get the message that the mount point doesn't exist. Bill On Saturday 01 February 2003 12:22, zentara wrote:

IIANM, Driver=(none) means this camera is NOT supported by your kernel. You could do a google search to try and see if there might be a patch to get it working with your machine (by recompiling your kernel). It could be a revision or something not supported. Hope I'm wrong... ;-)

Whay really makes me wild is that Ricoh supplies a cdrom with programs for Windose and Mac. I emailed them and they said ""Sorry, LInux not supported!!""
