I'm trying to establish Firebird on SuSE 9.1 and have struck a blank (brain that is) 1. I'm logged in as root 2. /etc/sysconfig/firebird is a text file which I "found". What version do you have ? I have 1.5.0.4290-0 Superserver installed. There was an init-script included (see /opt/firebird/misc). -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.

Konrad - the version Yast claims is installed is 1.5.1.4481-0 and I have the /opt/firebird/misc/firebird.init.d.suse in my hot little hand - not that I know precisely what to do with it :( Maybe I should link a special filename to it? Mike

Make a link, or copy the file to /etc/init.d/ Maybe rename it to firebird, whatever you like. Then go in Yast, System, Runlevel Editor. You should see the name of the file in the list. Select it, and activate it (don't know what's on the button, because my version is in Dutch). Now Firebird should be running. Finalise Runlevel Editor, and Firebird should start running at every boot. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.

How did you install. I tried to compile (so I could install it using rpm), but the compile fails. Which is marked as being a typical suse thing.... Whatever I tried nothing helped to pass the undefined reference to tgoto and friends.... Richard It was already installed in 9.1 Professional off a DVD but not running despite YAST saying it was enabled. Mike

Because I have a built problem during the rpm packaging. OK, you tried to make your own package, which failed. But Firebird has readymade packages. That's what I asked : why don't you try these ? I used them on a 9.0 and 9.1 box. As far as I know they run fine. I have to say that I'm not using them heavily, they are (for the moment) for learning (like PHP). I still use Interbase 6.0 on Win. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.

Do you refer to '25th December 2004 SuperServer for Linux V1.5.2 (.rpm) (3.0mb)' on http://firebird.sourceforge.net/index.php?op=files Or to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=9028? Is there a big difference between the Sserver and the Cserver, do you happen to know that? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

This one. I don't know too much about the difference, there's a white paper on the site. It seems the super-server is the future, so I chose that one. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.
