Hauppauge PCI-FM tv card question on SuSE 8.2
Dear fellows, Once more I'm back on this list .... With a serious problem ... I got a comparatively new TV card, which is Hauppauge WinTV-PCI-FM Modell #718 On SuSE cdb they say that Hauppauge cards work. Mine doesn't :-(( I tried with 8.1, it didn't work, so I decided rather to wait a couple of weeks for 8.2 and then retry, hoping that it would be autodetected by YaST in 8.2. It is not ... the same as it was with 8.1 :-( Has someone got an idea about how to proceed? Manual setup in YaST gives you a choice of four different types of Hauppauge cards, and a bunch of tuners. None of the four types of Hauppauge work if I select 'default tuner'. Is there something special about it? On the tuner itself on board the card it reads: 'PAL-BG 34514 REV E142' Cheers .... Is it listed here? http://home.t-online.de/home/gunther.mayer/bttv/bttv-gallery.html Might take a bit of digging around, so many chipsets out there. Main website, should ask them too as you added to their profit margin and they should get some idea that us Linux users exist. http://www.hauppage.com/ Matt

Hello,
In order to make my TV card PCI TV-FM Model No. 718 work in SuSE linux it would be helpful to know which Chipset and which tuner is used on this card since it is not autodetected by the setup routine of SuSE 8.2

I sent the message below to Nrussotto@hauppauge.com. I suggest others on the list do the same, especially if you have bought Hauppauge cards in the past. -------------------------------------------------- A bit behind the times, aren't we? Come join the rest of us in the modern computer era. I have 3 Hauppauge cards in my house right now, all bought specifically because they work in Linux. I guess it's time to change brands. There are plenty of other choices besides Hauppauge, you know.

My card works for 7.x and 8.0/1 so far, just setup
kradio, kwintv and xawtv during installation.
Configure the card in Control centre, and it usually
done automatically, otherwise your card maybe fautly.
Your card should be with a PAL tuner module, are you
in US or Europe?

Hi Dennis, I don't think there is something wrong with the card. It is seen by the HW monitoring in YaST - So this is not the problem. What are your settings? What exactly is the name of your card? Yes, and FYI I am in Europe, Germoney, PAL system. The tuner is 'PAL-BG 34514 REV E142' So that's not the problem either. My suspicion is, that this _newer_ card is not recognized and I will just have to tune it manually. E.g. my Epson 1660 Scanner was easily set up in 8.2, it was 'in the list', whereas 8.1 still had required some manual tweaking to make it run - which was no problem either; just no autodetection because it was 'too new' :-) Cheers .... Hi, There is one big chip on the PCB, it says: CONNEXANT Broadcast Decoder CX23881-27 E256679.1 0233 KOREA Is this CX23881-27 line (which contains that stoopid 881) an indication for this card to be 'of the wrong version' ?? And if so, does 'kernel patches' mean I will have to build my own kernel? Cheers .... Wolfi ============================================= mailto:wolfi_z@gmx.net Linux ... the better OS!

Have a look at http://bytesex.org/bttv/ There is a link to some software (alpha version only) for the 881 chip. If You get this running please tell us here on the list. good luck, Ralf -- Ralf Haueisen ralf.haueisen@pi.uka.de df1iaz@darc.de http://www.qsl.net/df1iaz

Then most probably you're out of luck for the time being :( Recent WinTV cards use a decoder chip that's not yet supported by bttv. I'll agree though, that this should be mentioned in the CDB. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de Development, SuSE Linux AG private: pth@t-link.de

Hi Philipp, Given this sad fact, are there any plans to include this kernel module which is missing up to now (from what I have understood so far) in future kernels? Well, and please include this information in sdb as early as possible, since the 'fully supported' flag set in sdb was my reason to order this card which now prooves defunct :-( Cheers ....
